This is remarkably similar to the picture of the dragon that's on Kira.

Does anyone know enough about Chinese mythology to know what it means?

Nice find mate.

It might not be a reference to the "Dragon King", rather a "Black Dragon" tattoo. If you know what I mean, that makes sense as well.

But it must have some real life significance as well. Someone here probably knows more about it.

Didn't Kano's jacket in MK:DA have that symbol on it as well? I thought it was the new symbol for the Black Dragon. That's why I incorporated it into my fan art of Kira (in the background).

Looks like Kano has that same symbol on his back so it could be something of their clan. I think that thing would make a nice weapon for Kira if those two edges where made of some sharp knives. They even could make that weapon throwable.

Yes exactly!
It is not any style of fighting. It is a form Buddhism.

Definition from zenguide.com:
Zen - meditative absorption in which all dualistic distinctions are eliminated

dictionary.com:
A school of Mahayana Buddhism that asserts that enlightenment can be attained through meditation, self-contemplation, and intuition rather than through faith and devotion and that is practiced mainly in China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Also called Zen Buddhism

If that's the "zen" symbol, it doesn't fit the Black Dragon very well. Now that I think about it, the MK team seems to have made a few other strange choices regarding the Black Dragon. It said its founder was Morihei Uyeshiba, the real-life founder of Aikido; his philosophy of fighting was all about wearing the other guy down. It doesn't fit a thug like Kano very well.

Hmmm that is kinda weird. Zen Buddhism stuff wouldn't really suit the Black Dragon.

Anyway, Zen Buddhism (Dhyana in Sanskrit and Chan in Chinese) combines beliefs from Mahayana Buddhism and Daoism (Taoism). Bodhidharma (known as Da Mo or Ta Mo in China and known as Daruma Daishi in Japan), the 28th patriarch of the original Buddha and the creator of the original Shaolin 18 Lohan Shou, is said to be the father and 1st patriarch of Zen Buddhism.

Anyway, it really seems to be quite ironic. The Black Dragon is a crime organization yet there are certain things such as giving Kano styles like Xing Yi Quan and Aikido that are quite odd.
