Sure as hell better than DA. Some of them are mediocre, but this is a huge improvement over quan chi's amazing "neck stretcher"

with most characters, yes. others, however, have some really good fatalities: (note, not all are listed because i haven't yet seen them all)
the good:
ermac- really uses his powers well, and although they reused his MK3 fatal, they did a great job with it.
sub-zero- again, his fatals are done well, and i happen to like the idea of pitching subby as a cy young candidate (lol)
ashrah- excellent all-around. the voodoo dolls are cool, as is the spinning fatality.
darrius- ok, the arm rip has been done, but you have to admit it's cool to rearrange your opponents body.
liu kang- the fireball is good, and the other fatality is absolutely hilarious. liu kang's head on jade's body is just ridiculous.
shujinko- with no real special abilities of his own, why not use his weapons?
jade: head kabobs and torso slices seem like good ideas for a woman with a large stick.
bo rai cho: if you don't think farting is an awesome way to kill an enemy, you're just plain wrong.
the decent/not so great:
kabal: these fatalities seem like i've done them a million times already.
mileena: see kabal
tanya: the leg rip is ok, haven't seen the other one, will update when i do.
baraka: nice gore effects, although these are really just 2D MK repeats
the terrible:
havik: you would think a character as cool as havik would have sick fatalities. right? leg rip, smack upside the head, fatality. wtf?
scorpion: neck snap, not bad for the comic effect. but the subby spine rip? no. why not a toasty-type fatality?
li mei: i was really, really hoping they weren't going to bring back a brutality. but they did. it's a sad day in the world of MK.
noob: (boon:) hey, vogel! let's reuse reiko's shuriken fatality in MK:D! and let's make it a lot less cool! (vogel:) awesome!
smoke: (boon:) hey, vogel! let's reuse reptile's MK2 fatality in MK:D! but instead of smoke slicing the guy (cool) lets have him decapitate the guy! (vogel:) sweet!
nightwolf: because 2 fatalities in which the end result is decapitiation is cool. and also, you're stoned.

You forgot Kenshi, he has pretty good aim for a blind guy, and ripping a guy in half using telekinesis is cool too.
I think Sub-Zero took the show with fatalities though. Freezing the guy, ripping off his head, sliding backwords(shoulda been his retreat move) and throwing the head into the body to see everything just shatter is awesome. Or Freezing their legs and them ripping off just to see the guy is still alive so you can step on him and decapitate him is also awesome. Havik has 1 cool one where he eats the arms off of the guy and then does something else that I forgot. I thought Liu fireball fatality was pretty lame. Raiden has that Fatality/Hara Kiri where he super electrofys the guy who explodes followed by raiden who explodes.
