Well, seeing as how MK8 (MK vs DC) is non canon and takes place between MK2-MK3, we need to wait until MK9 to find out who is canonically dead.

Yes, it was non-canon. The MK team said themselves the opening intro was just for show and didn't reveal anyone's final fate.

i thought that the next true game was going to be a series reboot, with only sub and scorpion returning. i remember ed saying awhile back that armageddon tied everything up, even tho it didn't answer a lot.

Yeah, MK:A was supposed to wipe the slate clean, with only good characters returning, as well as Scorp and Sub. liked characters that will be killed off, oh and maybe except Raiden too

People never actually die in Mortal Kombat (johnny cage, Shao Kahn, Raiden, others) They're dead but they usually return for another game. the only person who dies and stays looking dead, is Lui Kang.

I'm not sure who died and who survived, but I'm hoping Fujin is still alive.
