Lol! Depends what system you are planning on using. Yes, you have to buy something. For the X-Box, you must purchase a subscription to X-Box Live. For PS2, you must buy a PS2 network adapter.

It cost around 30-40$, and plus u have to have a broadband connection or else it wont work.

ok, well i have a PS2, and on the back, it came with some kind of adapter with it.....but how do i play online, i already have the adapter...wat do i need to do, or download...?

Go to the store and buy a ps2 online adapter or what ever the hell it is called. Next buy a ether net cable long enough to strech from your modem to the ps2. Connect the to of them. Turn on ps2 log on to a server set up an online account. Bam you are playing. So lets sum up.

but anyway ..Krazy_monkey.. if ur asking for advice i would recomend xbox Live. the only good thing about PS2 is thats its free....EVERYTHING else sucks about it(when compareed to bxl)...u get what u pay for.
For xbox u have to buy a kit which includes a head set and a one year FREE subsciption to Live. the whole kit cost u 50 bucks.....or u dont have to buy the kit, u could just buy the subscription card BUT WITHOUT A HEAD SET THEN WHATS THE POINT FOR ONLINE.
both consols require high speed internet access DSL OR CABLE.(yahoo dsl is only 25 bucks)
PS2 dosnt support free online gaming with head set(im told)
im just saying the truth ...before i bought the new consols i asked what was better PS2 or Xbox and about 95% of people told me Xbox and its Live was better by far...so thats how i ended up with xbox.
