I've heard people say that it's free to play online with PS2. I agree, yet it is up to the server owners for each particular game to decide whether their online service is free for all or paying customers only. For example, you need to pay a registration fee for a famous PS2/PC online MMORPG, and even more per month if you decide to use more than one character.
From what I've read, MKD is thankfully free to play - which is music to my ears!

Basically any game that doesnt save all your information or characters on their server are probably going to be free. Things that are play for an hour and that's it....
I pay $17 a month for FFXI though :(
