That's just your speculations, dude. Because in Shang Tsung's ending, it says he has the amulet as well, so your theory is pretty much not valid, at this point-in-time, anyway.

one of the two endings that you can take to heart that might appear in MK6 is either quan chi ending or possibly but less likely shang tsungs ending. Personaly I think Quan Chi has been dominant for the past two games, and maybe someone else may take over or he could continue leading along side the dragon king perhaps?

I think, more or less, Quan Chi's is the ending that would happen out of those two. Mainly being, if Scorpion is going to be in the next MK, which he most likely will, they would still have to carry that rivalry out into that game.

I do not believe that Quan Chi took control of the amulet, since if had been revived the army, nothing had stopped him to eliminate the Earth soldiers and to be the absolute master. Although I believe that possibly this alive one (and perhaps with the amulet still), would not have sense that revived the army but the Earth soldiers defeated the Deadly Alliance.
