You do see him run across. I dont think you can catch him.
Also, if you look at the tree where those kids are playing like within the first hour You see Deception Sub-zero, again I dont know if you can talk to him.

This is very old. It was shown in the Konquest vids released on IGN, and elsewhere, before the game was even out.

Yea, you can see Ermac, Sub-zero, Scorpion, and Stryker all in the village at the beginning of the game. Ermac races you to the red coin between the pillars.. Sub-Zero races you to a blue coin behind the tree. Scorpion just runs behind the butcher's shop. Stryker runs past some barrels very quickly on the opposite side of the third dojo.
