nah i hope its just a spin off but they could do with killing off the other poorer characters anyway

I much prefer it if this game were not canon, however, I'm not totally against the idea of it being canon though. I just hope the story can stand on solid ground. If the story is just gonna be wacky and flimsy, just make it a spin-off.
But all this is irrelevant, I can look past it all if the game itself is fun to play.
One thing I'll be pissed about is if DC is canon in MK, but MK isn't canon in DC. That'd just be a total slap across the face to all MK fans.

I disagree. Just simply let this game be a crossover side thing, and allow the main story to continue into the next game.
Here's the thing. Considering how fucked up the current MK canon is (Johnny Cage alone), could a crossover with DC really screw it up more? I mean, DC has shown in the past that they can deal with incredibly screwed up canons. Just read Crisis on Infinite Earths.

While I do agree with you to an extent,I wouldn't want it to be canon. If that were to become how it will be,then the next few MK games will be a continuity of the DC characters being involved with the story.
I would want it to be that way at all.

Personally I kind of hope this is more or less a "what if" scenario.

True with Johnny Cage, but with DC they are very good about being canon...with exception of the Crisis(es?). I mean, at least they've never done something like Marvel JUST did with One More Day.

While I respect people's opinions, I still have to say that whoever wants this game to be canon is simply off their nut.
No way in hell should a bunch of spandex- and cape-wearing "superheroes" be a permanent part of MK history and the storyline. Never, ever. Not in a million years.
One-shot, bang, it's over, now give us MK9.

NO!
Sure SOME interesting facts COULD be canon, say they mention some interesting stuff about MKA or a specific characters personality, etc. But thats it. Nothing about DC should ever be considered as part of the *real* realm of Mk.
And Im one of those who will give thi sgame a chance. Looks interesting and fun.

I'm OK if they kill off all the rejects without explanation. Boon 1st mentioned wiping the slate clean and starting fresh... which is what I was hoping for in the beginning. Obviously that's not going to happen, BUT there's a possible chance that MK9 will wipe the slate clean and start fresh (maybe with the exception of Scorpion and Sub-Zero) without having to make DC or Armageddon canon.
Nothing the MK Team does surprises me. These are the same people who keep claiming that Shaolin Monks is canon when we, the entire friggin' fanbase, have basically said it's not.
MK is in DIRE need of a good storyline and good characters. Crossing over with DC is interesting, but I cannot see this working as a canon story.
Is Marvel vs. Capcom canon for either? No way. Is Super Smash Bros. canon for a series like Zelda or Metroid? No way. Is Spawn's appearance in Soul Calibur II considered canon? Nope.
That's the way it should be. If this is just a fun, mindless fighter, I won't mind so much. But if they honestly expect us fans to embrace a game where we already know no one will die as part of the MK canon, they'd be very mistaken.

Um... yes. My God, yes. Inconsistency, as terrible as it is, has means of being repaired. If they canonize this atrocity, we have MUCH bigger problems than inconsistency. The storyline of the past three games could be called incomplete and at times unoriginal, but it wasn't a terrible story. If the DC chapter becomes an official part of MK, how can anyone with honest lips still call this Mortal Kombat?
I'm not even arguing art anymore. This is just a question of essence. If MKvsDC is anything more than a "what if..." scenario, then what you have is a permanent splinter in the story arc. If Gone with the Wind infused with Citizen Kane to make a third film, what you have is no longer an instance of either universe, but something totally different. Again, this is not a subjective observation: canonizing MKvsDC would entail something that is neither a true part of any franchise, but a new creature entirely. Is this what you really want?
Canonizing this game would be the logical death of mortal kombat.

It's their story to tell. What they say is canon is canon. The votes of the entire fanbase don't equal one Ed Boon vote.

Boon doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. The story is not his responsibility.

He knows the basic story but as you said, it's not "his department" so naturally he won't know every, little detail like Vogel would
Personally, I hope this IS canon because of a few reasons.
I understand with other fighters, some fans don't care as much but I also believe that's because they never really had a solid story to begin with....MK always had an intriguing, dark story to it. We'll just have to wait and see if it'll be canon come MK9. I think the fans will decide that factor depending on how well it's received. Of course it's Boon's choice ultimately but I think if they have that "positive reaction" from the storyline mk fans they'll make it canon, if they hate it as a majority then have it have nothing to do with MK9 and just continue from that point post MKA. The only problem I see with this is say they explain what happened in MK8 post MKA(which I think they will) and then decide not to have MK8's/DC storyline canon that can raise a few problems IMO if they want to continue the storyline from MK7-MK9 and skip MK8 because some people might not like that. If I were midway, I'd make it canon personally. Whoever likes it, likes it, whoever doesn't..doesn't. There are some things I believe that they should do without worrying THAT much about the "fanbase" especially a fanbase that disagrees often with each other....you can't please everyone lol.

Fuck no. Making this game canon is honestly the lamest thing the MK team can do at this point. I absolutely do not want DC to be carried out in the MK story line. After this game, I don't want to hear about DC and MK again in terms of story line.
I wouldn't worry about it though, this hasn't been confirmed yet. You MK and DC fanboys can say this is MK8 and the story is going to be canon all you want, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
