I just had an idea...

I was out back smoking a cigarette and I had an idea. I read in a Boon interview that they're going to push the T rating as far as they can and then take a step back as far as blood and gore goes. I also got the understanding from what I read (at least as I understood it) that they haven't decided how to do the finishers yet, and that they were going to make it as violent as possible without quite reaching an M rating.
Now, a LOT of fans have been giving huge backlash with the probability (or almost guarantee) of no fatalities. I will support MK no matter how it turns out, and I hope I don't get bashed too hard for this (because I DO want a great fighting engine and fun gameplay) but hearing that fatalities were going to be done away with in this iteration did disappoint me as well. it's the heart and soul of MK, it just wouldn't be the same without it.
What if we started a petition right now, that the fans want fatalities (I know what your thinking, but just please hear me out.) Since the finishers haven't been worked on yet, we still have time. The game has approximately 7 months until release, there is plenty of time. If we could get as many signatures as possible (from the MK fans and DC fans, because I think DC fans would want to finish MK characters as well) and submit the petition showing our support in a reasonable time frame (say, within the next month) maybe we could make a difference and actually get it put into the game. If DC could just see how much this really is wanted by both sides, they just might change their minds. Again, I'm not doing this to detract from making a great fighting engine, and I don't think it would anyway. It wouldn't take more than a month or maybe even less to implement the finishers at the end of the development cycle anyway, as they will probably do them last.
Once again, this has nothing to do with whether or not you like the idea of MK vs DC, nor am I trying to detract from making a great fighting game/engine. I just want to know how many are willing to put forth the effort to make this happen. Really, it's unlikely, but it would take minimal effort from everyone to just voice and/or show your support, and it really might make a difference. Isn't it worth just a few minutes of your time?
Before I start a petition, I just wanted a show of hands as to who would support me in this idea. I've tried to word this the best way I can, so you understand what I'm going for here. I'm not trying to start any flame wars, I'm not saying its likely to make a difference, but it might, and you'll never know unless you try. I'd hate to just let an opportunity go if I thought even in the slightest that something could have been done. Plus, if we get enough show of support early, maybe we could get this stickied and get as many hits as possible.
Oh and one more thing, I know a lot of the people looking for a fighting engine first might look down on this idea, and I understand you want a great fighting engine first (I do too, and I completely understand where you're coming from) but who says we can't have both a great fighting engine and great fatalities? I know fatalities at least mean SOMETHING to you, don't they? There seems to be this weird idea or belief going around where we can only choose one or the other, that if one is implemented it has to be at the expense of another... why is this?
Well, regardless of what kind of a response I get, thank you for your time, and I have much love and respect for all the users on MKO - you're all MK fans/supporters to me, and MK wouldn't be the same without any of you. I'm just a guy trying to do what I can for the franchise I love. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the next game, and I really hope it turns out well for all of us.
Well, WHO'S WITH ME?

Great post! Especially where you mention, why can't we have violence and good gameplay.
I'm all for fatalities, but I just don't think it will go through.
Best of luck

How is the rest predictable? I haven't seen anyone else make a post like this (except for the one about other fighting games/blood which I didn't catch until after I posted this) and the last thing that I want is for you guys to write me off as someone who just wants gore and doesn't care about the fighting engine. That's why I wrote all of that and worded it as best I can. =(
Oh well, I guess I'll wait for more responses before I give up on the idea. I'm curious to hear the high-level players responses because I've been playing MK since day 1 and even though I admit I don't play fighters at a high level I figured this had to mean something to them as well... I'm just beginning to believe most of the people that have been on MKO for a long time want an MK game without fatalities, whether or not it could be done alongside a great fighting engine. Fatalities help define MK, they're not everything, but they help a lot. Wouldn't MK just feel like a clone without them?
I don't play at a high-level, but it wasn't hard to figure out that the MKD fighting engine was broken.
EDIT: This is my last post for tonight I'm gonna crash, I hope I see some more positive support in the morning, thanks for your responses guys. I don't know why a petition would get written off so fast anyways, petitions do make a difference and i've seen a few passed in my lifetime that really did make a difference. It wouldn't take much effort, but if you don't want to support the idea I respect your decision either way. Thanks again.
Yeah, I'd support you cause. But honestly? I just don't see it making a difference no matter how many people signed it.
And it's funny you should mention the gameplay thing, because that's totally correct, there's no reason we can't have both. Personally I'd like at least Tekken 4 depth with MK 4 fatalities, ideally. I think any MK fan at any level who says they never liked the fatalities is probably full of shit. Fatalities ARE cool. But it kind of makes me wonder; if we could rally for thousands of signatures for fatalties, why not spend the same time and effort on a petition asking Midway for throw escapes, reasonable frame advantages, etc? I understand where you're coming from but it makes me think... shit... priorities, you know? Anyway, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I guess I'd sign a petition for this, however futile. I'd still prefer to sign one for all the other shit MK's gameplay needs though.

Ok one last post before I go to bed (haha, I can't help it.)
Not to sound disrespectful or anything, but I'm not asking you guys whether or not you think the petition would have any affect at all (I understand why you would doubt it); I'm just asking if you would sign it or not. Don't worry about the rest, that's for me to dream about - I'll take care of the rest. I'll wait until I get a good amount of signings, get the e-mail as close to Boon & CO. as I possibly can, word it as maturely as I can and send it in while crossing my fingers. I'm just saying, it's worth a shot, and I'll take care of everything with nothing more than your show of support.
I'll create one in the morning if I get a good amount of positive feedback.
Thanks again!
