Smoke is my favorite character, and I've always appreciated his story and character concept. That's why I loved him so much. He may have looked like the other ninjas, but he had a novelty which made him unique from every other character.

But all ninja's started out as a pallette swap(except Ermac, ironically). Smoke just get the flames because he's not a cool color such as blue or green. What annoys me is when people say he shouldn't be in the game because he WAS a pallette swap. Although he is my favorite, I think I speak for everyone in saying that I wouldn't want him back if he's just another hidden character with identical moves and appearance as another ninja. But I know he won't be, and so do the anti-Smoke users. They just have a biased against him, and will say almost any stupid thing to convince people that he shouldn't be in the game.

im happy as hell smoke is back.. i've alwasy liked him... and to everyone that thinks he shoudlt'n be in it because he was just a pallete swap of another ninja... well so was every other damned ninja since mk1.. scorpion and subzero and reptiel... mileena kitana... and the list goes on and on... all looked exactly the same just color swap.. so what... no reason to not include him now.. he will have a unique look as they all do now... and he will have his own move set as they all do now....

I dont care or never liked him.

But I will give him a chance.

I hope he has a new look, not a ninja style like the rest billion of characters in the game.

And original moves too.

Smoke has good potential. I hope he will be good in MK;D.

Smoke was once an ally to Sub-Zero, before he was turned into a cyborg. Either if he returns cyborg or human, his story has potential.

since everyone fought the same, specials were the only difference and with pallet swaps, they just gave them the moves too

a friendly face may remind him of why he left the lin kuie and what he's fighting for

think of it as Angel joining Wolfram and Hart..he wanted to make things better but in turn left himself open to corruption.

its not that different with sub-zero..he took control, got cooler powers and as we all know, power corrupts

Smoke, being Sub's best friend and the reason he originally betrayed his clan can steer him on the right path

that is assuming Sub-zero gets closer to the dark side

Not quite. Once again, the only male ninja who had original moves with his first appearance was Ermac. Noob got his signature attacks much later in trilogy, and Rain, who did have unique moves, was pretty just substituted Raiden(even though they were both in the game, ironically).

As for why we like him, that all depends on the person, and how shallow they are(no offense to anybody, really). Some people see a grey Subzero or Scorpion. I see the MKII legend, who lurked through the living forrest, only making himself known through stealth-like movements among the trees. Then when MK3 was released, his mysterious story was finally reveiled through one of the greatest tragedies in Mortal Kombat. He's my favorite character and MK secret. What can I say, I love the bastard.

Thats really pathetic...you just basically said that the story of Smoke matters more than his gameplay aspects.


So what you should do is, buy MKD and read Smoke's bio over and over and just fuck the gameplay.

You see thats the thing, Noob got his own moves LATER in the series, but Smoke NEVER got his own moves.

As for Rain's powers being similar to Raiden's, I'd say it's a little bit within the same category but still different overall.
And like I said before, I also like Smoke and believe he has a lot of potential BUT, again he needs his own moves and I'm sure this time around he will.

But Smoke will have original moves in MKD. Thus, why everybody wants him back.

The reasons as to why i like smoke has pretty much been mentioned already by the smoke fans in this thread.

Smoke is my favourite ninja with huge potential. I liked him ever since i saw him in MK2, his mystery, and the fact that you couldnt play as him made me even like him more. Grey is also one of my favourite colours, and smoke is the only ninja that had some appearance that goes with his looks and name (smoke).

Smoke WILL be having his own unique look and moves in MKD. He will no longer be considered a pallet swap. Smoke is an awesome character, and i'm overjoyed of his return. Since MK2, i've always wanted the daWg to make a come back, and now he as.

The problem isn't that they are pallette swaps, it's just that they're ninjas at heart. It's still ninja over-kill, even if they look different.

I mean what if Deception had 7 members of the Black Dragon as playable characters or 7 different movie stars? Sure they may look different, but at the end of the day they are still Black Dragon members and movie stars. Same thing here. Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Smoke, Ermac, and Noob Saibot are all ninjas, no matter how the Mortal Kombat team designs their outfits.

With Reptile, they at least removed the ninja atire. It started with MK 4 and continued with DA. Ermac, Noob, and Smoke all just dress like ninjas, even if they're not the same.

Anyway, I'm glad that Smoke is back, but only if he comes back as a cyborg. It would be beyond stupid for him to return in a perfectly normal human form as it will basically be like MK 3 never happened, or like how Sub-Zero went from a Chinese looking dude in part 2 to a white dude in part 3.
