As I stated in the subject this needs to happen. I have played a few matches online and have come across some great players, but I have also come accross a huge assortment of assholes, complainers, sore losers and even people that have made threats to physically harm me if they knew my location. I don't have the best record online, nore do I really care about it but I usually hold my own against challengers that thought they were about to grab an easy win from me. I simply employ the age old Street Fighter tactic called mind games to get people to waste breakers then set them up for grabs or combos.
9 times out of 10 the people I have faced have disconected, yelled out obscenities, and worst of all threatened me. Come on guys it's not that serious. If you are losing to a player either move on to another player or try to overcome the other guys tactics to win. I learned how to defeat nasty Dairou players by staying on them and not allowing those tombstone drops to happen so often and I also found ways around Baraka. I did this by not complaining and threatening, but by learning what the weaknesses were. I usually get a kick out of listening to normal sounds of dissapointent but it gets disturbing to hear people taking this game so seriously.
This guy I played yesterday had an incredible record and he lost to me 8 times in a row all the while claiming to be the # 2 player and making physical threats towards me his name was BOLONG or some shit. That is not a smart thing to do to anyone because you don't know what that person is capable of. For all he knew I could have been an insane hacker and located his IP address to get residential information in an effort to make an unauthorized vist to his home.
The funny thing is when the guy told me he was Number 2, I told him "Then I guess that makes me #1" and he got hot! LOL!
All I'm trying to say is have fun guys and talk trash in the good spirit of competition, and please dont threaten people because you could get more than you bargained for. I'd like to hear if anyone has had a similar experience.
Take care.

Thats just sad. And people saying the people who want Super Unlockables are cry-babies. Sheesh. Atleast we don't threaten people. The online people are definately the worst when it comes to whiney people.

this is why I don't have a mic. I don't think it would be all that fun having some kid "threaten" you or attempt to and curse you out. Ugh... kids these days.

Man, that doesn't sound right at all.
Seriously though, if the masses thought arcades encouraged anti-social behaviour, then they're gonna have a field day with online gaming. Hooray for Internet tough guys. Most likely, they're 120 lbs. soaking wet, with less strength than a head of lettuce.

I do run into alot of times when people disconnect when I am about to chop their head off with a fatality, I think it's cowardly. I will admit sometimes I will leave if all the other guy does is throw with Raiden or run around trying to run time out becuase they have .0000001% more energy than you, it takes away from the fun of the game. As for the mic I have met nothing but nice people so far whether I get my butt kicked or win. There are those guys who try to "egg" you on when they are doing infinite combos and act like they are actually good but really stink (which is why they have to use that cheap crap in the first place) People should be civil win or lose, that's why MK is all about. Alot of times people ask for fatality moves or trying to find players they have not yet unlocked, that's what it's all about IMO.

I always unplug my mic. I don't want to hear all the crap people say.
i was TOTALLY into getting myself a headset so that i could take this 'next generation arcade experience' a step further but more and more i'm doubting i will.
it's too bad, but just like there are internet hardasses, there are also online gaming hardasses....

When I play games, I get pretty into it. I'll cuzz and swear and get pissed but after it's all over, I'm not pissed. I think anyone who looks up someone's IP and tracks them down has got major issues, whether it be the person threatening or the person being threatened. It's competetive nature to dislike your your opponent and want him to lose. i don't have xbl yet, but i'm gonna get a headset for sure! I can't wait to talk some shit.

I agree that a person that would track another person down to harm them due to a videogame suffers from major issues. I also agree with the competitive nature of fighting games, trash talk included. But don't you find it a bit strange that someone can get so pissed off about this game that they are willing to get into a real fight with you over it. I delt with issues like these when I was younger working at my local arcade. I was playing Alpha 2 and this guy had no clue that I was the one playing him on the other side of the arcade machine. He was pissed because he was losing to my tactics. We have the fighting games there set up as Head to Head on opposite sites of the arcade so that two player games are played on two different monitors, its a really nice set up. Anyway, this guy threatened to come over to my side and really work me. He changed his tune when he saw a rather large individual who works out daily who was really not in the mood for foolishness over a VIDEO GAME! I'm not saying I'm superman but I definitely was not about to let some strange kid put hands on me for a dumb ass reason. People should just get along thats all I' m saying. One thing I forgot to mention in my previous posts was that this moron online provided me his address so that, (assuming I was an idiot) I could meet him so that he could quote "Whip my ass". Go figure.
Take care

I totally agree on this one. I'm on the PS2 and all I see when I look at the chat is a bunch of little whiny babies saying the word "Fag" over and over and over again and treating each other like garbage. My first 3 fights were disconnects by the people I was playing against and whooping and the whole online thing just pissed me off.

This is why I'm taking a looooong break from MKD...all the fuckbags online that only use the 50/50 bullshit the whole time and threaten or quit.
[rant]MKD sucks, I'm moving on. Midway needs to get their shit together, WAKEUP MOVES, MOVEMENT OPTIONS, NO MORE DIAL-A-COMBO BULLSHIT. There is no real strategy, except the mixup. I'll still play every now and then against cool people, not whiny bitches (win or lose), but I'll not play against all the bullshit elitists out there trying to prove something.[/rant]

Far too many immature children are getting on there to play.
I don't care if I win or lose, as long as things remain fair enough.
(Read: No infinite crap being pulled on me. What's the point in challenging someone if you are going to pull that shit? Really? I'll disconnect, even though I hate to, if you start pulling that cheap-ass crap on me.)
I'm on there to have fun, and so far I've been lucky enough to find a lot of mature players online to play against whom when I did a voicechat with them ,it made the whole experience more enjoyable.
In my smalltown local area, there is nobody that I can play against that is into the game like myself, and to have a discussion about likes and dislikes about the current game with. Online, there is.
But these immature idiots that swear at you, scream in your ear or do some other amazingly retarded act need to be slapped upside the head or something.
If you can't take the heat, stay out of the fire. Don't go off cursing me for your lack of ability to change your tactics and be less predictable...
I'm far from the best player on there, as again, I've spent all my time in Konquest to unlock stuff and played through arcade mode with only Sub, Baraka, Kabal, and now today Noob-Smoke to see endings.
So I'm pretty rusty, and am one who sticks with old school play and tries to avoid the button links. I prefer the fun of harder to do juggles.
But regardless, all I'm getting at is to try treat people with a bit more respect online...I don't care if you are the best there is or claim to be, or aren't the best at all.
Win or lose I'm not going to shit on you, I'm going to tell you good game and chat with you a bit if you are willing to do so while playing.
The point here is to have FUN.
