i think the soulnado was pretty much just pulled back up into the heavens.

they could later say that possibly some souls escaped and inhabitted other bodies.

When Shang Tsung got access to the Soulnado (remember it was Quan Chi who summoned it) I'm thinking that because it was dead smack in the centre of Shang's Palace, the buidling itself was helping stabilise it not only to keep the portal to the heaven's open but to actually keep the Soulnado in the one place. So once the palace was destroyed either one of three things could have happend.
1 - With the palace gone the Soulnado was no longer stable and detracted back into the heavens.
2 - It became so unstable that it fell apart sending the innumerable amount of souls careening across Outworld.
3 - Or (my favourite), the palace ruins were no longer able to hold the Soulnado in one place causing it to travel across Outworld much in the same manner as a normal tornado. Bad luck for those unfortunate enough to get caught in its path.

Well, another possability.. when the palace is destroyed, Onaga has the amulet in his hand.. it is totally possible he closed the soulnado, controling the realms as he see's fit.

I agree with what you say.

I'm guessing the Soulnado just dispersed once the palace fell. As you said, the Soulnado was no longer stable and so just vanished back into the heavens.

thats somewhat correct.

Shang can still steal souls from people if he needs to.
