Now this has been kind of an odd question to ask but here goes. In Mortal Kombat 4 and Mortal Kombat Gold Reiko's name is announced as Reeko. In Mortal Kombat Deception and now apparently in Mortal Kombat Armageddon it is pronounced Rayko. Does anyone know which one is correct? Just wandering.

although rayko is how it sounds reiko is the spelling kind of like what happened to rayden/raiden
Also, there is no human language anywhere that would pronounce Reiko "Reeko". Except maybe English, but we have the stupidest pronunciation rules of any language that isn't French.
And yeah, it's always been "Ray-ko". Any confusion can be blamed on the non-Steve Ritchie announcer who sucks.

Last time this debate came up, I did actually hook up my MK4 again to see if I'm just crazy. I selected Reiko and really listened for the "RAY" sound.
It sounds like "REE-ko."
But that's besides the point. They're pronouncing it RAY-ko which is more-or-less how it's supposed to be pronounced.
But personally, he'll always be REE-ko to me.

Don't let being wrong get in the way of your enjoyment of the game.

That's hardly the same.
One is hearing a name, getting used to it, and liking it better.
Your example is just poor spelling.

he's spelling it how it's pronounnced
Just played MK4, it still sounds like Ray-ko to me.
Like someone said, the announcer sucks and the effects also ruin it all.
Just wait for MKA to see the good announcer saying his name.
No more Reeko bullshit.
Actually, the announcer for MK4 is the worst ever, the way he says "Round" makes me want to puke.
Sound like "RoundA Two" ridiculous!

Apparently the game's announcer pronounces it as, "Rayko", Dim-bulb.

It's always sounded like "REE-KO" to me until recently. I will still pronouce him as Reeko b/c that's what I've been pronouncing it for years.
Just played MK4 arcade and it sounds like Reeko to me. Yet, like some others have said in the language it is written in, it must be pronounced Rayko. But it is funny how some names have changed in sound from past games to now. Of course Ermac (airmac from UMK3) to Ermac (ermac currently) is another one, but won't get into that. The Reiko name just kept me wandering.

It's weird how they just change the pronunciations. For Ermac, I was more accustomed to the Air-Mac pronunciation. The announcer from MK Trilogy is my favorite announcer.

I'm going with Ray-ko. Thats how I always said it becaus "REI: is always pronounced "RAY'....just add the "ko" to the ende. Thats how they said Reiko's name in MK: Conquest also.
I don't understand this. It's been "rayko" since MK4 and still is. To me, it's like ask me if the pronunciation of "Scorpion" has changed. I speak several languages so maybe I can just hear things better, I don't know.
Now that is one pronunciation that actually did change. The UMK3 "airmac" seems better to me because it still has the sound from the word "error" in it.

Open discussion. It's "RAY"ko. "REI" ispronounced "RAY". the "E" and 'I' put together creates a "AY" sound not "EE" "REE"ko sounds so dumb and I think if Miday has the announcer saying it like "RAY"ko, then its right. But go ahead and call Him "REE"ko. and "Suave" at the end why your at it...>_>
