Is side-stepping gone?

I'm reading about the 2D gameplay and was wondering if tapping up no longer gets you out of the way. I really liked that dodge technique better than ducking or jumping. Did they remove this in MKDC?

No, sidestepping isn't gone.

3D Movement = Hold R2, U/D on D-Pad(PS).

Yeah on 360 you either Hold LT and use the D-pad or just use the left stick to side step.
