What are you going to use to play MKA?

I use an X-Arcade. Though it isn't a perfect controller, it's better than a dualshock or the Xbox Duke.

D-pad.

If anyone can actually use the analog sticks for a fighter (that isn't SSBM or SSB) I'll be surprised.

There is no substitute for the tried and true Arcade Stick. All fighting games were meant to be played on an arcade joystick therefore, should be played using one. I use a Pelican Universal Real Arcade joystick housed in a nice wooden case enveloped in black vynal. I removed the factory parts and replaced them with actual arcade joystick and button assemblies. The benefit in using the universal arcade stick is that when I hop from PS2 to Xbox versions of MK, I do not have to get used to either system's control type. I commend those who have the patience to learn how to use control pads to play these types of games, but for me its Arcade Sticks all the way!

Peace

I actually use the analog stick with DOA4 on Xbox 360. First fighter I've ever played on console that it just feels right and controls real well with the analog stick. All others in history I prefer the D-Pad, especially for MK.

I'll stick to the D-Pad. I don't think Motal Kombat is really that strict about motioning down towards forward as with some other games like Street Fighter Alpha. Plus, the PS2 D-Pad is just too frickin' sweet.

I wish I could afford arcade pads, though the ones I saw around gamestop and such run for at least 50, and I am not about to spend the price of a game on a pad ( even if it's worth it ).

malone, if your gonna use the stick might as well use the whole arcade game also. :)

custom stick, kinda.. x arcade internals, happ 8 way joystick... dynamo 360 stick blows for mk.

i agree doa4 is great with the joystick. mk classic games are meant for arcade stick. but i have to say mkda , mkd, and most likely mka are best used with dpad.(easier to do moves, jump etc.)

have any of you ever tried jumping with the joystick in mkd its so unresponsive

Ever tried doing a fatality? lol I kept PS2 version of MKD just do I can do fatalities in it without problem while it is a major pain in the ass to do so in GC version. And I do use the stick with MKD with GC version cuz the damn D-Pad is so damn small.

Anyone ever tried not jumping with the Xbox D-pad? Fuck...
Anyways, I prefer the PS2 pad for 3-D MK, but for any other fighter including 2-D MK, I will use a Joystick.

The PS2 d-pad gives me blisters after a while. Nothing like the n64 analog stick did in Mario Party's infmamous palm-spin games, but pretty bad.

Question for all you hardware modders, where do you get your goods and are there any online manuals for modding an X-Arcade that you'd recommend?

what modding does the xarcade need, besides a happ stick, the sf buttons are fine, even though i perfer happ.

www.happcontrols.com

oh yea, screw that 6 button set up, this isnt sf or ki. jumping with a stick is easy, and so it sidestepping.

definently the D-pad, it give you more control with the D-pad, the joy stick throws you off of what you're trying to do.grin

Hahahah! I hear what you're saying red, but I have no room in my place to store an entire arcade cabinet. What I use instead is a table lined with strips of velcroe so that I can fasten the sticks down to the table, then I can remove them when ever I need to.
