Whether or not you believe Reptile is the Dragon King or not isn't important in this post.
What other characters do you think could become bigger in the future? By this I mean.. Reptile turns into the Dragon King. Maybe Scorpion could play a bigger role in the future?
Personally I think that Fujin would make a hell of an evil boss.
Imagine this...
Similar to MK4, Raiden takes his place amoung the Elder Gods and gives the position of Earths protector to Fujin. Fujin does not have the same patients with the human race that Raiden once had and turns his attention to destroying them.
The lead character could be Sub-Zero... who's older brother used his mastering of cold to defeat Fujin in the past.
But most of all... this could open the door for other characters. Such as the God of Water or Fire... or maybe even the God of Earth as a sub boss.

hell NO, no Myth characters.
fire god looks like a blaze on fire but with raidens model.
and the water god looks like a blue version of MKDA's blaze.
the earth god was stupid, hell no, none of those assholes, cept quan chi and sareena maybe to be in a mk game. shinnok also sucks ass, and so do the immortal friends of sareena on the last stage suck.
