Anyway, um, you have to beat more of knoquest mode. Eventually the gate will open up. I think after you beat it. And it's not a chest, you just have to find Li Mei in a hut, then she'll disapear.

I like Li Mei's chest I love all womens chests, but anyway.
In Conquest mode you get captured by Kano and brough to that village and just go into the huts and she will be in one and then disappear(you'll get akey for her coffin)
She will show upon the beach as well where you will teach her kombat skills
