"In concluding announcements concerning new titles Midway, in what’s sure to come as a surprise, announced that another Mortal Kombat game is in development. The platform for the game wasn’t disclosed, but it was said the game would be released during calendar 2004. "

The only news is that Midway said it. The MK Dev Team had already announced VERY long ago that the game was under development (they were already thinking stuff up at Fight Night), and there have been many confirmed news (like various drafts reported, but not shown, Dark Baraka draft existence, etc). Also, the year had also been stated, at the "late" MK6.net.

well not all of us go to mk6.net

no one else bothered to say anything
and we know about fight night
but this is important because midway is now telling other sources about mk6
seems like we might get pics and shit earlier this time

I wouldn't put too much stock in it, everyone expected MK5 much sooner than it came out. People said summer of 2000 if I remember correctly. But this at least serves to confirm that Mortal Kombat will see another installment under the supervision of the people at Midway.

Agreed, this time is official.

Very good news, though.

I don't think 2004 is a realistic time.

I don't know, 2004 seems just a little short, heck, MK: DA only came out in Oz mid February 2003, this year. Oh well, they know what they are doing. MK: DA apparently sold very well for them didn't it?

Well, the games always get delayed - they said Sept. 2002 originally, then changed it to Nov. I just don't trust the 2004 release date, it would be a rushed project if that were accurate.

But then again, you're crazy.

About the 2004 date...it's possible. MKDA was originally going to come out by the end of 2001. It came out one year later. Although, MKDA was a completely reborn MK. Perhaps we will have mk6 by 2004...

They have been working on MK6 since November (maybe December), and considering they have half the work done (the fighting system is down, and so is the entire engine), they mostly need to work on the concepts (new characters, Fatalities, stages, Storylines, etc.), and the implementation of the new stuff.

About the possibility of some other MK game this year, the only realistic idea would be a Trilogy-styled game, as Online has only a not-that-strong chance of happening in MK6, let alone before it. And considering they got rushed in the end of MKDA, and some things were left behind, I don't want them to waste time in stuff like that, so that they can concentrate in MK6, and do everything the current technology allows them to. After MK6, I wouldn't mind if they would take a 3/4 year vacation, working 6/7 months on a MK Trilogy 2 (MK4-6) using the same engine, with improved textures.
