Since the last MK figure thread was cremated and pushed back a few hundred pages I thought I'd ressurect it with a reply from SOTA stating the possibility of MK Figures.

I just re-emailed SOTA and I just got a reply from them, here is what I wrote and their reply.

I deliberately said really nice things about them to give us more chance of getting them. I would still prefer NECA to do them but they wont reply.

Dear SOTA
As you may have heard or seen lately is the increasing popularity of you or NECA (2nd choice) to do a figure series on the Mortal Kombat Franchise.
Many upon many people are wanting other companies to do them but I say a big No - have you seen the total rubbish some companies have made? The figures are completely ugly, the articulation Joints on these makes them look hideous and they have bad sculpts and dodgy paint applications.
But I thought of you, ever since you released the Hellraiser figures you instantly became my favourite Toy Company, I have bought all of the Resident Evil Figures, The Charmed ones and awaiting the Street Fighter figures and most of all, I'm highly anticipating the Now Playing series, I can't get enough of your products.
NECA has everything to look for in a figure - great sculpt, brilliant paint application, supreb accesories and you retail them at extremely good prices, and most important of all, you LISTEN to the fans, very few companies actually do that as you might know.
I know this email may sound a bit like me praising the floor you walk on buts it's the truth, you are the best figure comapny there ever was.
I don't want anyone else making the Mortal Kombat figures because they would do such a terrible job which could damage the reputation of MK, I want you to do it as I know you'd do it right!
Here I have just given a list just to give you a very rough Idea on how you could do them, the formula very similar to the Hellraiser series (6 figures, collect all incentive, acessories, box set, cc exclusive, etc).

here it is:

Series ONE

Scorpion (MK:Deception Outfit - accessories - Alternate skull head, Flame projectile (like barbie in HR Series 2) Mugyai Ryu Sword, Spear, Alternate hand, base)

Sub-Zero (MK:Deception Outfit - accessories - Alternate Hand, Ice Blast projectile, Kori Blade, Base)

Kano (MK:Deadly Alliance Outift - accessories - Alternate Head, Butterly Knives, Heart, Base)

Sonya (MK:Deadly Alliance Outfit - accessories - Beret, Kali Sticks, Kano's severed head, Radio, Base)

Rayden (MK:Deception Outfit - accessories - Electric Staff, Electric Blast projectile, Removeable Hat, Base)

Johnny Cage (MK:Deadly Alliance Outift - accessories - Nunchucks, sunglasses, Green Fireball, Base)

Collect all six to assemble the Dragon Emblem

18" Scorpion (MK:Deadly Alliance Outfit - accessories - same as 7" figure - with talking phrases "get over here", "come here", etc)

Exclusive Box set - Shang Tsung Vs Quan Chi - MK:Deadly Alliance - accessories - Kuatan Palace Diorama base, Straight Sword, Twin Fireballs, Shang Tsung Alternate hands (for fireballs), Broad Sword, Flaming Skull, Quan Chi alternate Hands (for flaming Skull), additional Accessories.

This is just an idea, if you want more suggestions on the next few series just ask.
I know that Midway (creator of Mortal Kombat) would prefer it if you done it as well, remember the Infinite Concept Figures? Their MK series sold out verey quickly and ever since then there has been an extremely high demand for another line of MK figures.
I doubt you will even consider it but if you did then you would be making a very profitable move, with the new MK Game (MK:Deception) out in October it is already in the top 5 most anticipated games of the year, and 2002's MK:Deadly Alliance shifted more than 3 million copies.

Hello Tony,
Thank you for your feedback.
In honesty, Mortal Kombat has been something us here at SOTA have been interested in doing, and its possible to do and possible to obtain the lisence.
I am not hinting anything, but if we do consider doing Mortal Kombat don't expect anything until mid-2005, As for the next few months we only have enough time to focus on Street fighter. Once we see how well that does we'll revisit the idea of MK.

So there we have it, a possibility.
I have to be honest though, the demand for the figures is getting very high, its being demanded in places like : action-figure.com, movie-maniacs.net, here and other figure/game sites.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

The figures should be highly articulated - I know agree - but looking at the Street Fighter Figures it takes away the detail of the figure it looks bad - with the MK figures as they have more detailed and elaborate Outfits and costumes they should have the same amount of articulation but make the lines and joints hidden if possible, don't you agree?

What do you guys think of the Line-up I proposed?
