MKD is NOT the First Online Fighting Game

I just read the news about MKO going to E3 (congrats), but they also mentioned that MKD will be the first online-enable fighting game for consoles. It's not the first time I've seen this mentioned by MKO and several other places and it's just not true.
Killer Instinct, Weapon Lord, and Mortal Kombat 3 were all online for the Super Nintendo via the Xband modem system. In addition, many of Capcom's fighting games for the Dreamcast were online in Japan. Capcom vs SNK 2 was also online for the Xbox. Then you've got Dead or Alive Ultimate which is set to release before MKD and will be the first online 3D fighting game.
So MKD is in no way the first to go online. Why does everyone keep saying it is?

This is the wrong forum, but SC2 is not online for ANY system.

I dont think CAPCOM VS SNK 2 is online for the PS2. I have the x-box version, which is online. I think it might be the first online fighting game for the PS2.
Why does it matter if it's the first online #-D fighting game on PS2 or not? They said it was the first online fighting game and it's not. By any means. It might and probably will end up being the best one, but still it's not the first. End of story.

Alot of people probably dont remember xband.
I thought that was cool but its no longer around.
I had it for the sega gensis but the true internet
came out shortly after an it became way more popular.I played MKII alot. My phone bill went up some but fighting other people was cool.I had fun with it.But I always had to fight some one long distance nobody local had it running in my area.Man good memories. Long Live Johnny Cage.

This was going on aroundmid to late 95.Early 96.I played alot of mkII on there.Sometimes they would even have tournaments. It was cool.

| |CAMK| Wrote: He has a point. However none of those games you listed except for Capcom vs. SNK EO (for Xbox) and DOA Ultimate can be called 'online' fighting games at this point. MKD will be the 2nd online 3D fighting game. |
Why can't they be considered online? You could play people online just like you will be able to in MKD. How is that any different?
Also...
"...to make Mortal Kombat: Deception the first online enabled fighting game for home consoles!"
That's a direct quote from the article on the main page. It doesn't say the first online enabled MK game. It says the first online enabled fighting game.

It was an honest mistake. It's corrected and noted, we didn't mean to get people all worked up by it.
