It seems almost exactly like mortal Kombat 2. From the new characters (Baraka and Mileena) to the feel. Also today i checked the new offical website, and its a thunderstrom with the mk logo being lit up in the backround, much like MK2. Also there seems to be no mention of the Dragon King, i dont really believe this but ill ask it anyway, what if mkd is a sequal to mk2 and a prequil to mk3?

I saw the resemblence when I first visited the site also. They probably made it that way, because of the majority of people likeing MK2.

I totally agree with you on this one. It is indeed like Mortal Kombat 2 on Steroids, which i have been hoping for this time round.. More dark, sinister and evil much like how MK2 was. And if it was like a prequal/slash Sequal to MK2/MK3 then you could probably say that Shao Kahn could come back.
It took 2 games until we saw a 3D Shang Tsung in MKDA, they were MK4 and MKGold, Its been 3 games now since we have seen Shao Kahn since UMK3, he is too very popular with most fans so there is a chance BUT back on track.. yes, It does feel like they have adopted the MK2 feel to the new MK:Deception game, and that in my books is a good thing!

I have been saying that this game will have MKII characteristics for a long while, as im sure some others have too. But honestly I think they have crushed and shattered MKII's holding power. If there ever was a game to break that it's this one.
And that theory of possibly between mk1 and mk2, or mk2 and mk3.. that's an interesting possiblity, you never know.

scorpion looks the same as he did in mkda. So MKD probably takes place soon after mkda.

That does not neccessary mean that this game is a sequal. I personally don't think that MKD is the sequal to MKDA.

All fighting MKs are (chronologic) sequels... why wouldn't this one be?

Hell Yeah it could be a sequel to MK3 or prequil to MK2 because my friends at Best Buy saw a trailer and saw Lu Kang and heard his squeels and wails....................KANG HAD RETURED

A prequel to MK3? Now THAT is a very interesting theory. It would be neat to see. However, as one poster already brought up, Scorpion's outfit looks like MKDA's...so maybe it IS after MKDA.
ON THE OTHER HAND, remember the chat with the MK team over a year ago or so? Didn't Vogel mention something like the next MK game wouldn't necessarily be a "sequel"? Does anyone else remember him saying that, or am I hallucinating again?

Wow that was like a what, quadrouple post? Oh well, shit happens.
Well, so far we've seen Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Mileena, Baraka, and Ermac, with two unknown characters. While Ermac didn't show up until UMK3, he's been around in some form since the first game (albeit as an error). So it's entirely possible that MK:D could be a prequel to an already made MK game like MK3.
I wouldn't put it past the MK team to do something like this, as they always try to do something new and innovative for the series. Blood, fatalities, hidden characters, multi-tiered arenas (that was SO Mortal Kombats before Dead or Alive!!), gambling on matches, multiple style combat with branch combos, the minigames, konquest mode and the krypt, etc etc etc are all innovations that fall under the MK logo. So who knows, maybe they'll take the story and innovate on it.
As for the other evidence, I believe the lightning behind the MK logo was their when the official MK:DA site launched, so I'm not reading too much into that. The look of the game appears to be reminiscant of MK2 style-wise, but that doesn't lead me to believe that there's a connection beyond that yet. But we'll know soon, especially if we start seeing new pictures of Bo Rai Cho's dopey ass or someone from MK3, MK4, or MK:DA. Who knows? That trailer looked awesome though and I can't WAIT to find out!!!!

In my opinion I think this game is a direct sequal to mk:da, because in the trailer it says, sinister force uses trust and loyalty of an alli(i cant spell)to take it all, through deception. That allaince maybe that of the deadly alliance with quan chi and shang tsung.

Because of everyone's look (especially sub Zero) I think this is chronologically after DA... now, it may not nessesarely be a sequel to DA storywise.... the alliance may have nothing to do with it... same with the DK... etc. etc.... it may just be a MK story with all the characters he fans asked for! (I hope...)

well personally i could care less what it is, all i know is so far MK's lookin like its #1 fighter again. If we get all we were promised with MKD then there's no stopping MK.
ill admitt i didnt really like DA all that much, dont get me wrong it was a good step for MK, but i though they could have done much better. but now im all pumped and ready for sum death. I say bring on the MK i need all i can get. but now im just rambling.

Trust me, people, this is a sequel to MKDA.
Remember that Sub-Zero has the Shredder mask now. He never had that before and never will....until now. Plus he still has that medallion on his chest.
Once again, Sub-Zero has shown us the way.
Still, the idea of a prequel is intriguing. Maybe for another game, though....as for Vogel saying it won't necessarily be a sequel, well....I don't remember him saying that but maybe he did, and if it's true, maybe he means that the whole DK thing did in fact happen, but they're not going to concentrate on it for this game.

Maybe it technically would be some of both? The press release said that their would be new modes. Maybe there will be some sort of sub-game in there. Like an untold chaper from mk2 to mk3 or something, then after you finish that mini-conquest you can progress with the story after MKDA. But then again, the whole deception thing of a being who wanted to take it all.. I mean two previous beings come to king, shao kahn, shinnok, then there is the dragon king.. hell with mk's story now, they could go SO many ways with this.
Because of stuff with the costumes being brought up, I would have to say I think at least most of the game is bassed after MK:DA, and yeah John Vogel did say, not neccisarly a sequel.. but that probbly meant, not an MKDA two, but rather the progression of chronological tournoments.
ENLESS, they went MK Conquest style on us, and set this game back way before the first mk game???

About Boon saying the next game wouldn't necessarily be a sequel...Maybe when he said that, he had the MK Kompilation in mind.

I hope that it is not set in between MK2 and MK3. But it would explain alot eg the characters
Or maybe, just maybe this takes place in the same timeline as deadly alliance. Sort of like Ultimate MK:DA. Maybe these storyline isn't moving on from that game so they're just going to revamp everything and add more to the mix, so this could just be Deadly Alliance part 2.
Sort of like the Lord of the Ring's series...they're all the same story, there are no sequel's (seeing as how it was all originally written to be one book) but there was a prequel how ever, the hobbit.
So I can sort of see this game as being in the same timeline as MK:DA and not directly afterwards. But unlike attempts at this before (UMK3 and MKG) I don't see this game just rehashing the same old characters and stages and adding more to the fray, I can see them changing the characters and all that stuff (as we already know in Sub-Zero's case.

I doubt Mk.D is a prequel or sequel of any of the old mk's. If they spent this much time making the game just to go back and explain something, or the storyline i doubt it. They did that with two game the mythologies, and that special forces game. This is more than likely what happened after the deadly alliance...
