Okay, when they keep making MK sequels they're going to have a couple tough decisions, regarding certain characters.
A) They never have anyone die, even though it's supposed to be fights to the death.
B) They do have people die, but they're brought back later (either they escaped death, or they're resurrected).
C) They kill certain characters off for good, and the dead characters stay dead. (This results in "clones" of the popular characters.)
We know it's a tough choice, and the MK team knows this already. There's no other options besides the ones I listed, so they have to choose A, B, or C. Either way, some choices will piss a lot of people off, so let's not whine about it no matter what they decide, k? K.

lol, kinda funny that after every fight, someone dies, yet in the whole story of MK, no one has died.

Yeah, she looks like she has a lot of potential, she'll fit in just right. Nice to know Mavado is not truly dead. grin

Although I do value story, I think this is a very good point, because the demand for a character should always take precedence over plot. Johnny Cage may have died a thousand times too many, but I seriously don't care. If fans want him back, then he should be back. Same with Kitana, and as much as I hate, and I mean HATE to say it, same with Baraka and Mileena as well.
I just don't believe any person should be denied their favorite because s/he
died
. Anyone who thinks characters should stay permanately dead have probably not have not had to wait eight fucking years for the character to return. Hell, even after this hiatus, I only got half of my favorite back.

You know it's the same way with comic book villians. If they're killed off they allmost allways come back later. Fans want to see those characters again so they bring them back.

I don't agree characters should never die, but I think that a character should be deleted from storylines and the MK universe completely because of it. In a few games if Johnny Cage gets enough support for a return, I say let it happen if it's OK with the MK Team.

I think characters that are naturally flops (i.e. Stryker) should be killed off for good but these "clone" characters are more than welcome into the mix because lets face it, if it fits them, it fits them and its just tough for the people who dont like it. Kira for example. Her moves fit her. Think of it not as a "clone" or "character just to save time". Think of the potential. Kira versus Sonya. We all know Kano is "Dead" in this story line for Deception or so we've heard. Think about if Kira fights Sonya. Kira will have the abilities of Sonya's arch nemesis AND herself making Kira Sonya's most deadliest enemy. BINGO! Kira equals an awesome dramatic story twisting character. Just what MK can't get enough of this days. She's perfect for Deception. And again, perfect example. Sure Frost was a "clone" of Sub-Zero, but look at the potential she has and probably still has to come. She could become one of Subby's most dangerous rivals along with Mavado/Scorpion/Sektor. My last example and probably obvious choice; Kenshi. Sure, everyone thought he was or still does think he was a "copy" of Ermac. But so much potential has been given to the character that he will obviously be around for a long time to come and so will Ermac. United they all seem, but divided they all really are.

Yup. MK's story means jack now. But they give in to the fans. They shouldn't even bother with the story anymore like this. I hope MK7 will be a huge Konquest with full custom characters. That way people can't moan about the story or "clone"characters :x

If you don ́t care for it, don ́t read it. Simple.
I think that a good idea to end this returning-from-the-death-with-no-apparent-reasons-whatsoever characters is to host a "fantasy tournament", with some of the characters from all MKs, regardless of whether they died or not. I took this idea from King of Fighters, from their 2002 and 98 games, where they brought back fighters like the New Faces Team, a big fav in KOF history, that couldn ́t appear in any other game because they had died in 97.
That way, people could have their all-time favs in a game, and a fluid storyline in another.

You can't say that no one has ever died for good in the MK Universe. Sub-Zero I, Sheeva, Motaro, Shinnok and possibly Kintaro have all, for the moment, died and not returned.

Well the Classic Sub-Zero, Sheeva and Motaro are dead. I think it is a good thing. I also believe Moloch may be dead. We need more info on him.
I'd say first of all, death means nothing in Mortal Kombat, cause when you die you dont suffer in hell forever, you simply go to the Netherealm. So they should kill characters, and only resurrect them if they have a storyline that fits (like Mileena being resurrected by Shinnok in MKGold was logical). Anyway, they should kill off a few characters every game, and get them back a few games later. So they should always kill them in a way that makes sense for a comeback too.
They shouldnt get rid of characters that were in more than 3 games, but hey, every character that has these attributes these can be killed forever:
-cause they were unpopular
-they had a little role
-they were in only one game
-they wouldnt look awesome even after a remake
Here are the character that corresponds to that:
-Kai
-Jarek
-Mokap
-Hsu Hao
-Meat
I think every other character has potential for future games.
