When you first saw the intro to this game, what was your reaction? When I first saw Liu Kang get his neck broken, I said "What? They can't do that!" It was very surprising to see MK kill the main character of the game. Basically what I am asking is, were you shocked when you saw that scene, or did you know they were going to do that sooner or later?

My initial reaction was "Why are everyone's hands so large?"

I was shocked, but not in a "Oh my God, I can't believe they killed the main character" kind of way. It was more in a "Oh my God, I can't believe they finally got rid of that piece of shit!" way.

I've wanted Liu Kang dead since MK2...but they kept bringing him back. Most fans that I knew also hated Liu Kang and wanted him dead. But they kept bringing him back, again and again, and they kept having him be "the hero" (which I never really bought into, either) and it seemed like, no matter what, we were stuck with him for some unknown reason.

But then in MK:DA's intro, with Shang Tsung snapping his neck and Raiden's voice flat out saying "Liu Kang is dead."
Such a feeling of satisfaction and vindication. FINALLY! Not just the excitement of a hated character finally biting the dust, but also the realization that this meant someone else...someone cool like Kung Lao or Sub-Zero or maybe even Scorpion (since Quan Chi was one of the main villains)...would have to then step up to save the day.

Good times.

I was also satisfied as a Kitana fan. Not only do I hate the relationship with Liu Kang, the cliche is usually the girlfriend gets killed and the boyfriend goes out for revenge.

As for the rest of the intro...
Not as much reaction to Shao Kahn's death, though. I was more surprised that he was still alive to begin with, because MK4 kind of led everyone to believe Kahn was already dead. I'll admit, I also needed the story fleshed out to me through Konquest before I could really get into. Based on the intro alone, my initial response was "Who the fuck is the Dragon King?"

All in all, I did like the intro. Even though subsequent intro movies have been more action oriented, I liked the ominous atmosphere and the way they built up the tension and story.

lol. Don't get me wrong, I hate Liu Kang too. I just couldn't understand why they would do that. Maybe they wanted to make it a little more interesting? I don't know. But I just thought it was weird how they would do something like that.

I was like 'meh' to everything except Shao Kahn's death. That made me rage.
