ok i didnt put this under the mk6 wishlist thread cause i didn't think this should be a sequel to any of the mk's, and it should be a seperate game all by itself.
so anyway, my idea is to have a mortal kombat online game that has no story to it at all, and is completely 100% online.
there would be two modes, arcade and tournament. arcade would be like a quick pick it up and play mode. you could chose a character from the mortal kombat series and just fight other people you challenge. your character would have two fatalities, maybe a weapon fatality, stage fatalities, special moves and the like.
next up would be tournament mode, and this would be huge. you start out by creating your own character. at this point all you would be able to choose would be its race and its basic clothes. itd prolly look similar to that guy who walks around in konquest mode, except with whatever race you chose. then, you would go to a choose your server type screen. the servers would be represented by different types of the mortal kombat world. like youd have edenia, earth, the netherealm, whatever. different types of the world would have different clans (like the lin kuei), or would hold different races. so, depending on the race you chose, you would go to that part of the world. then you would be let into whatever clan you chose in that part of the world, and you could chose your exact outfit you would wear to fight in (plus maybe alternate), and this would be fully customizable. also, you could chose between 100's or weapons the clan offers, and hundreds of special moves and fatalities (you can only pick so many special moves and fatalities). then, you would be trained on the fighting styles of the clan, how to fight, and so on. periodically, the clan would have fights to determine different ranking in the clan, like clan leader, clan bitch, whatever.
then once a year in tournament mode, there would be the giant mortal kombat tournament. in each part of the world, every clan would have a mini tournament to determine who would fight in the final tournament. so one person from each clan would represent that clan in the tournament. then the tournament would begin, and itd prolly be held on an non-clan island like the one in the first mortal kombat movie. whoever won the tournament would become the champion of the world until the next years tournament, where he would be automatically in the final round against whoever won so far in the tournament.
some added stuff:
you could take your character that you made in tournament mode and fight them in arcade mode.
in tournament mode, a person from one clan can make a challenge on a person from another clan and fight them. if they kill them, the dead character can not be brougth back (maybe, like a waiting period so the person who lost and was killed cant play with that person for a day or seomthing.) the previous mortal kombat champion cannot be killed, but he can fight others for practice between the main tournament.
there can be other mini tournaments held throughout the year just for the fun of it, like the tournament of edenia or something.
well thats all i got, i think. please post your thoughts.

thats a pretty cool idea. it would be cool if ther was like a all out deathmatch type mode where there are hundreds of characters and u fight who ever u want. i think that would be cool. also they have to have every MK character created. other than that cool idea.

About Me

i think nomatter how things'll work it will be pretty interesting

yea a deathmatch mode would be pretty badass... especially with every character in the series in it...
and in this type of situation, the players would make the game, so if no one was on, then it would suck, and there would be no game. but thats true with any online game... i guess...

but the only downside to the create a character thing is the time it would take to program all the fighting styles to "connect" with each other. unless there would be an option to just select the styles of another character (like scorpions styles, shangs styles, etc)
an online game would be cool..it would be cool if when the greatest hits version of mkda came out with an added online feature..that would be kick ass. but it wont happen as they are at work on mk6. it would be nice though.

Yes, scorpio, it might be difficult to program every possible combo, but if you think of Blaze and Mokap, they have fighting styles from 3 different characters. The L1 button substitues for the first attack button of a combo, then the rest of it's picked up.
Maybe if there is create character/edit fighter mode, L1 can just link fighting styles together automatically.
I may not be 100% right on this, but the combo animations look as if they are basically one attack after another. I think the motion capture might just be that good to where showing a string of attack movements makes a continuous looking combo. That could be why they need to be predetermined to make sure the animation looks fluent.
IF... if that is the case, choosing fighting styles could be a possibility.
I don't know if the masterminds at Midway can do this for this or any game, but goddamn that would be so cool.
Also, instead of betting koins... What if you could bet something like 'character attribute points' like speed, sidestepping, taunt/reversal/special-ability, or different things that slightly effects the play of your character.

yea i was also thinking about the attribute points and thats a good idea. but what if like after you created your character, your clan leader or someone experienced puts you through the training mode of that particular clan, and then you recieve your weapon and get trained on that, and during that whole training you get the attribute points... and then you can wager them or something while fighting...

About Me

'I was in a fight man.' 'And he gave that to you?'
'man you should see what i did to the other guy.'

this game is about skill not attributes. if i beat someone he could easily be a panzy and say its b/c my attributes are higher. If i fight somebody i want no advantages so i get bragging rights.

About Me
It takes an idiot to do cool things. That's why it's cool.

You wanna know what's wierd? I heard someone somewhere say that Online Kombat would be a bad idea!
0
yea blaze you're right about that. so screw the attributes i guess.

0
Well, if you look at Mk:Da, there are small differences in the speed (not sure of really anything else) of each character. I mentioned attributes to not overthrow a fight just cause someone has full points in certain areas (they could be limited), but basically just to keep characters from being exactly the same.
