First of all, the graphics: they don't look organic, at all. They look more like the kind of foam rubber and PVC full-bodied costumes I can get at my local Halloween superstore. The designs for the DC characters look really bland, nothing really pops out at me with them. I know that they're supposed to look spandexy, but Power Ranger costumes have more detail and substance to them than the DC models do. And why does Midway feel the need to please the wankfest fanboys by going back to the original MK and MK2 costume designs? They just don't work that well in 3D, I'm sorry. The worst looking, by far, have to be Kano and Baraka, and that's saying something if Baraka looks uglier than he normally does. Someone on here also mentioned that the graphic designers seem to have a shoulder pad fetish, since most of the MK characters seem to have the same design basics, and they all have the same kind of shoulder pads. I can see this; there's really nothing to distinguish between Scorpion's, Sub-Zero's, and Shang Tsung's costumes except for color.

Second, the gameplay: the basic fighting mechanics are the EXACT SAME ONES as Deception and Armageddon, but it really breaks down when you get into the Freefall and Close Kombat; it's just rock-paper-scissors style button mashing. What in the hell gave Midway the bright idea that this was a good thing? It's not even like normal counters where you counter a high attack with a low one and vice-versa, you literally are told which buttons to push to counter the opponent's attacks. Players don't want to be babied through the game, and this does exactly that. I can understand a tutorial or command list you can bring up, if you forget some of the character's moves, but this is just ridiculous.

And what of the fatalities? Everyone's been saying that the "glowy eyes" thing is stupid, and I have to agree; I guess there will be a story reason for this, but it looks moronic. The fatalities themselves are rather stupid, too; I don't care what anyone says, Superman hammering his opponent into the ground like a tent stake is NOT a "Brutality", especially since we've ALREADY SEEN it used TWICE before as a Fatality. And Joker's fatality? How could they screw that up so royally? He doesn't pull out another gun to shoot his victim after producing the BANG gun, the BANG gun is rigged so the flag is shot into the victim when he pulls the trigger again! Surely that couldn't be too hard for the animators to do, could it?

Finally, the story: we don't know ANYTHING about the story, just that there's something that happened to make the MK and DC characters fight. It's speculated that the aforementioned glowy eyes will mean that someone's controlling both sides for some sinister purpose. What the hell? I can understand the DC heroes needing to be mind-controlled in order to fight so brutally, but not the villains or the MK characters.

Overall, this game just shows just how little the MK team cares about the franchise, anymore, and just how little quality they're putting into it. I doubt the final product will convince me otherwise. At least they copped out and NOT made this game to be MK8 like they were planning; that would've added insult to injury, if they had.

Anyway, there are a lot of different kinds of attitudes towards MK vs. DC on here, and you can't generalize every person who criticizes the game as a hater. I've seen a few people I would think are "haters" - they offer no real insight or criticism, and post simply to state "Yeah, this game is going to suck. lol I told you guys." over and over. But most people who are less than enthusiastic will actually back up their opinions with solid enough arguments, and even if I disagree with them, I can at least respect that.
