Motion and model swaps to ruin MKD?

Now I know I'm gonna love this game no matter what, but I'm gonna play devil's advocate here for a second. I have noticed, from pictures and videos, that many of the motion captured moves from old MKDA characters, as well as certain models, have been blatantly copied onto new characters in MKD. Boon and company have been notorious for using material over again (ie the palette swap ninjas).
For example, Ermac's slam looks identical to Kenshi's slam. Many of the fighting styles look to be exactly the same (ie Hapkido). Even though Boon claims they will be "re-vamped", I hope his definition of re-vamped is not simply adding 1 or 2 moves to an existing fighting style...
Even in the newest round of pictures, it looks like Ben/Ken has Sonya's Kali Sticks. It also looks like Kira is using the exact same motion swap for Kano's circle knife move in MKD (side note- leads me to believe Sonya and Kano are not playable).
Granted, alot can/will change between now and the final release, but things don't look good, and the motion swaps are getting me a bit worried, at least in terms of how "new" the game will feel and play. Does anyone here share my concerns? Can ya add anything to the list?

Well, I'm a character design freak, and as long as all the characters look different, unique, and good, I'm infinitely happy. As for the moves, I guess there is a little bit of analysis needed before I can judge anything.
But first, let's not be critical of Kenshi/Ermac moves, alright. I mean, they both have different move sets, and Ermac's slam still resembles his same one from mk3. As long as they play and feel different, I have no complaints.
Also, keep in mind that a lot of MKDA character styles are now being passed on onto new characters. I think we need to wait a while, because right now some things are understandable.

what ive read from all the people who've played it at like E3 and stuff say its alot better, and much faster gameplay. so it probably couldnt be copied and paced if people are saying the gamepay is different.

But I for one am not surprised. As you stated this is midway.
I guess the term of revamped gameplay= same moves on new characters.
I'll wait till I see some match vids on the changes in the styles before I rip them.

For the beta versions, it is common to have a lot of "place holders" ie stances, weapons, and bits of costumes that are just for show but will ultimately be replaced in the final version. It's coming out in like 3 months though, so don't you think they should already have most of the new mo-cap done? I guess I'm just worried because we see three new screenshots and it looks like - even in the latest stage of development - like they are re-using alot of stuff. revamped gameplay = same moves on new characters? And they can make the game as pretty as they want it to be (and it's damn nice lookin) but gameplay and variation will make it hold its replay value.
About Me
To anyone who cares, I'm not banned. I left of my own accord. This place is dead to me now.

I agree with what you said, especially about MKD being a beta version thus far. I remember two years ago when we were first learning about MKDA - it seemed like ten different characters had the Tang Soo Do style! But I knew not to worry, just as I'm not worrying now. They can't make a sequel 100% original and different from its predecessor. I'll just have to see the final product.

I think 3 different fighting styles for each character involves too much original content to come up with. There will probably be around 30 characters in all in MKD so thats 90 fighting styles. I dont see how they can all be unique unless the game is in development for like 6 years.

im kinda mad that they did do alot of swaps so far, but i dont think it could even come close to ruining the game. I just really hope it doesnt get way to overdone.

It seems to be the new "Pallette swap" for this decade, instead of costumes it's movelists.
But I wouldn't mind that much if reasons are given for characters having the same style eg. Any Lin Kuei former/present members having a same style would make sense. Whereas the whole Kenshi/Scorpion sword styles is just wrong.

I hope that they're stances and moves are not all exactly like MKDA characters. Two characters with the same style can have different variations of their attacks, and I hope Midway do this.
This is actually my only concern about this game. It would ruin the game if it is used way too much, like people from MK:DA having the exact same moves and the new characters having rehashed versions of styles/weapons from people that didnt make it in.

Agreed, there are way too many weapons and fighting styles in the world for Midway to be using old ones from non returning MK:DA characters. Since this edition of MK has alot of fighters from outworld, they should of taken the 2+ years and made up some new fighting styles (such as Oni).
