posted08/02/2004 10:56 PM (UTC)byI have been playin Mortal Kombat since it hit the arcades WAYYYY back in the day. Then the jump to the first of the home systems (A,B,A,C,A,B,B anyone?)
ANYWAYS... I have been reading this forum for a few months now. Never really felt the need to input before but I decided I want to post my opinions and thoughts on certain aspects of the info we have gathered thus far.
For starters, we all realize that MK:DA was a totally rushed piece of garbage hack attempt at a "totally new MK game". I think that DA was (personally) a beta test for this game. They pretty much created a graphic engine, developed models, and threw a game together real quick (prob midway breathing down necks... per usual). The game was filled w/ glitches, 1 friggin fatality each and no stages LMAO, and it just wasn't a mortal kombat caliber game.
This time around however it seems they did it right. They obviously listen to th feedback of gamers from the DA game and did what everyone told them to do. More fatalities, stage fatalities, online play, hidden goodies up the ying yang, dark gory evil gameplay. THIS IS MORTAL KOMBAT.
My thoughts on this storyline however.... a bit in the dark still, I believe Reptile is no more. He IS the dragon king, and Reptile shall be released upon defeating him. Then most likely he will become playable. I also am leaning more towards this theory of L.Kang being a sub boss, think about it (the old dragon animality, many many dragon references in past, dragon king resurects the greatest warrior of all time to assist him.). Then he himself becomes unlocked after defeating him. Will the dragon king ever be playable in the actual game (cept via gamesark/action replay)? I say no, you'll prob just gain Reptile.
Raiden's new look has impressed me greatly, a fallen god type/banished elemental feel to him.
Smoke looks really insane... not human, not robot, but a body made of mist. Very clever on the design team's part.
Kabal... well what can I say... KABAL IN 3, and altcostume will prob be MASKLESS. You dont get much more badass then that.
Glad to see Stryker was left out of this... I have no idea why people like this character. Granted, he made sense in the "outworld/earth" conflict. He just would not fit into this story.
Finally the female ninjas have unqiue costumes, so far I like what I see. Palette swapping is dead.
Fatalities from what I have seen thus far are more then impressive... specially Subby's head throw. The hari kari is a sweet addition aswell.
Still nothing on Sektor? I find that hard t believe there's not a SINGLE battle action shot of the masked robot. Considering what the MK:D team has done w/ costumes so far, you know this one will be VERY elaborate.
I will add more later, I'm at work right now and dont have much time to talk. I just tought I'd add my 2 pennies into this.

2 pennies is so much better than 2 cents
Have you been looking at this forum on a different user name? I find it hard to believe with only 11 visits to this site anyone could get a general idea of the forum.
I agree with everything you've said, maybe you shouldn't be silent and post more often.
EDIT: 12 visits now, i'm sure it's only just changed.

I use to do it for a long time before I signed up sometime in May.

Good post. I don't completely agree with you, but your points are well made.
The main thing I can't concur on is the fatality quality. Although there are some good ones such as Sub's head-rip/ice shatter, many of them are very uninspired. Both Mileena, Scorpion, and Kira have simple grab-and-rip fatalities. This may be excusable for the more mundane characters, but giving Scorpion a trite and simple limb rip fatality is just disgusting. Also, instead of working with the new character's potential, they stick with the tried and true fatalties which are really no more than explosion kills that we're all sick of from MKDA.
The second thing we disagree on is Reptile's status in MKD. But I won't go into that, since I don't want to turn this thread into a Reptile/Dragon King debate.

Welcome to the forum, but I need to disagree with you. In construction, laying the foundation is the most crucial and time consuming element. As it was with MK:DA. It was not rushed. It was not crap. I will agree that it was incomplete. But with the amount of change brought in (truer 3D, style changes, first MK game on a current-generation console), it was justified. Now that the difficult task of laying the foundation is done, MK:D will be superior because more time has been placed on the bells and whistles. But that's only because MK:DA is the rock the house is built upon. Please let's not call MK:DA crap. If any MK game was crap, point to MK:SF.

I agree 100%!!! I was deeply dissapointed with DA. I think it was meerely a bridge for Deception.

I agree with both of yous. MKDA was just felt too imcomplete. Winning stances all looked the same, only one fatality per person, no stage fatalities and hardly any stage interaction. Fighting engine was nice, just my biggest complaint was the speed which has been fixed along with everything else. Plus uppercuts and round house kicks(I think kicks) are back.
MKDA was the stepping stone for MKD.
Rational, disected, thoughtout piece of writing. i disagree with MKDA being a disapointment because it revamped so many facets of the game. Your Liu Kang idea has merit but personally i always want Liu to be good. Keep posting we need more written pieces like yours that actually can be diluted down and deciphered. Thank-you
Well, I have a little time to dish some more of my thoughts, and it seems that everyone has a very positive reaction to my posts thus far...
Smoke... I have no idea why newbs on this board cannot grasp this concept. Boon stated smoke will be in the game and he will be niether human nor robot. This was in an early interview on MK:D. We have all seen the picture of a figure composed of mist... This is smoke, this isn't Noob's alt costume, nor is it a robot w/ a cloaking device. Come to terms w/ the fact this is what smoke is now and stop flooding the board w/ stupid smoke related topics.
Next up... NEW CHARACTERS, most of these just look like fillers to me. I hope they have a decent backgound to them, I just really dont see how half these people will fit into this story. Before it was pretty cut and dry (these are the good guys....these are the bad guys). There was no "hey I'm just passing through, but hey... maybe I'll just start fighting for no reason" characters. This is frankly what it looks like to me thus far, I'm sure Boon's crew will pull this all together just fine.... HAVE FAITH.
The conquest mode is the most interesting to me of all. I've never been a big fan of RPG's, but for some reason this seems to fit. The question is.... Will there be second chances? Boon stated that there are certain items/characters that only appear at certain points and times. If you complete the conquest can you go back and re-do it? Will we have to start it all over again or can we pick certain save points throughout the adventure?
As for all of the "Goro" "Kinatro" "insert lame sub boss here" threads.... Sub bosses are meant to be killed and replaced. That's kinda their job, hahah dont expect to see them in this or any other MK game for that matter. I personally dont even think you'll see them in conquest, then again I could be wrong. But I dont see a child/young man/training warrior going toe to toe w/ goro or kintaro and having a discussion. I think either of them would just rip the kid's head off and call it a day.
I'm tired.... I'll give everyone that info to chew on for now. Goodnight.

I kno exactly how u feel... kicking an opponent's head off or stomping on them is not nearly as fun as eating them whole, or kissing them so they'll blow up, or even shake them so fast everything peels out

Some good thoughts. I agree MK:DA wasn't complete but it was still fun. I 100% agree with the creative fatalities. I think they should have one that is your ave head kick type fatal and one that is unique to each character like involved with their special abilities. As for Smoke I'm just happy he is back!

Welcome to the site, man. You've made some good observations. Not all of them I agree with however. I don't believe Reptile is the Dragon King as it would be a shame to lose such a good character.
Your thoughts on MKDA I agree with except for the part about it being garbage. The game is good and enjoyable to those willing to get past the things that it lacks. MKD is shaping up to be the best MK game yet. The storyline is looking good and the bios for the characters shows new story direction which is great.

I had a blast with MKDA for the first few weeks, but then it got a little stale after i unlocked everything. Still, it was a really good game. Now with MKD, I see myself enjoying it until MK7 comes out, especially since it includes online play.
And about the comment of sub bosses not returning... goro was the sub boss in MK1 and MK4. Kintaro revamped with MKD's engine would look incredible, maybe as a secret sub boss or even a second sub boss before the DK.

Yes i agree that MKDA was just a game to show what was going to be in the 6th installment such as it being 3-D Better character models and diffrent fighting styles. It basically wanted to prove that MK could go to higher heights and reach its potential.
The only thing I didn't like about it was the characters they had in it. It was so random and I hated the new characters except Frost and Mavado. They also couldve had better and more stages. But that is the thing Midway knew what it was lacking they just wanted to show that as "this is what you will be seing in MK from now on but 100 times better" and that happened...example MK:Decption
MK: Deadly Alliance wasn't garbage but after a few weeks after playing through Konquest...Unlocking all character and stages...There was nothing else more to do. BUT MKDA was not garbage it wasn't th e best but it wasn't garbage.
MK: Deception is not going to have random characters just thrown in the characters will all have a part in the story and there will be so much thought put into it and I dont think we udnerstand how lucky we are for them to give us such a great game such as MKD it will be AWESOME
thank you

Eh, I thought MKDA was enjoyable. However, I do agree it felt rushed and unpolished. Now in MKD, they've added all the special things we wanted in DA, plus a whole lot more.
As for Reptile, I hope he's not the dragon king, I just hope he's in it and playable. He's always been my favorite character, so frankly I don't care if he's ninja or lizard, as long as he's in.
