Shoot Fireballs at the big lighted crystals around the room. Once all of them are deactivated, wait for the statue to stand on the marker in the middle of the room. Freeze time, then ground pound the button nearby. Repeat.

The above information is correct. Follow these instructions and you should have little problem defeating the Colossus. You only have to repeat this process twice, so it isn't terribly difficult.
