Here is a new Ed Boon Interview from Giant Bomb:

Giant Bomb

I have not finished watching it, but the only good thing so far is that Ed Boon says that they are working hard for MK Fans not to feel like "they've played this game before" when picking up the controller.

So, this is good news if he is serious, because he says how it's time to move on from the MKDA, MKD and MKA fighting system, as much as he liked it, he doesn't want to see that again.

EDIT: Another interesting thing that is mentioned is his thoughts on characters for the future:

* He thinks the Mk1-Mk3 characters are the classics greatest hits. So, we can expect to see some of them return for the future.
* He mentions the possibility of seeing Cyrax and Sektor back. He mentions how he is surprised Kung Lao didnt make it and the debates they are having to choose DLC characters.
* He loves some of the new characters that he would like to see back such as Kenshi.
* He even mentions he has a few characters that he wouldn't even care if they didnt return, but out of respect doesn't mention any of them.

Not much new stuff, but still, kind of cool to watch,

And this is why I'll probably never play Mortal Kombat again.

Veeeery interesting peak into Boon's psyche. When I see things like this, I hate having to trash some of his game design because he always seems to geniunely have good intentions but just come off as kind of ignorant as to what the benchmark is for a quality fighting game.

Like, I'm glad to hear him say he wanted something new as far as the gameplay was concerned, but his reasoning for that wasn't because he thought there was anything wrong with it, his reasoning seemed to be that he just wanted change for the sake of change. Which really at the end of the day still isn't so good in the long run. It kind of confirms what so many people say about Midway adding gimmicks for the sake of adding gimmicks and claiming that the new gimmicks make a new game. He clearly stands behind his opinion that he thinks the mechanics of the last few games were great. I mean you obviously wouldn't expect a games co-creator to come out and say his creation sucks when it puts food on his table, but to me he seems to believe it with enough conviction that I don't really think there's much chance he learnt anything from the mistakes he made in those games unfortunately. He might "move on" with a new fighting system in the future, but if he hasn't learnt anything then we're just doomed to repeat history.

Anyway. Great interview. Sektor revival ftw! And God willing Kobra has no future. Also I was VERY pleased to hear he wanted or wants (can't remember which) to take a more 2D approach with the gameplay. Yay!
