Well, I haven't seen many "online option threads" I suppose that's because most on here don't even go or play online..which is fine but still, there has to be an online discussion for MK8.
Since I play at high level online, lots I feel there should be some newer elements to the online play.
-Standard MK fighting mode:No doubt this will be back online as the normal fighting mode to play online against someone else via optimatch, host or quick match or ranked/none ranked. One on One fighting MK mode online.
-Improve the online transition, MKA was done poorly I felt(even worse for PS2) but overall was very laggy(all fighters lag online) but MKA was way worse then MKD and UMK3 online play. Those games were good enough to compete for the most part, MKA not so much. Improve the online smoothness
-Release patches for online glitches and lag should MK8 need it, this can easily be done on the 360 version at least since we've seen it for other games
-I've said this idea a looooonnng time ago, over time I've noticed some others on here have thought similar ideas. New Multiplay online options such as a Tag-Team online mode, supporting 4-6 players. Have two options for this mode online, 4 people in one room/lobby and have a 2 on 2 or 6 total in one lobby/room and have 3 on 3 tag team. Options like a button push will tag out if you don't want to play and want another member of your team to fight, say you'll losing and low on energy or something.
-Round Robin/King of the Hill mode like(UMK3 and DOA style) multiplayer online play option. Similar to Tag team in amount of people but have anywhere from 6-8 people in one room/lobby(ok 8 might be too much and cause more lag) but minimal of 6 players at least, how that works for those of you that don't know what I'm referring to. They put it in the UMK3 360arcade port as an extra mode for the online play, it's awesome. It's where say you'll have full room/lobby of 6 players and you have to try to defeat the top player/leader/current winner of the room in order to take his place then the next person in line faces you to try to take you out etc, etc. It's loads of fun as I've played UMK3 360 version at my friends house, but I do have the DS version(it doesn't have that mode however in online play) DOA also has this up to 6 players I believe, it might be 8 but I know at least 6. UMK3 had 4, so being that MK 8 is new, current genre I'm thinking at least 6-8 players allowed in one lobby/room. This of course will support voice chat to make it even more interesting and fun.
-4 player all out Brawl, similar to a SSB mode but MK style I'm thinking make this like a side scroller adventure game(possibly like MKSM) or like a TMNT like style where you can fighter whoever you want in a 2D fashion(if they don't want to with the 3D root) but most likely should be done in 3D. Have weapons to pick up and stuff, it would obviously play differently then the standard MK fighting mode.
-New mini games to also be playable online, like MKD and MKA the mini games were also online and they were tons of fun, if they do make more mini games I want them online too! It'll increase replay value. Say perhaps a new mode all together where you have to race against another player online mixing up the mini games. So, for example. Say they bring back the racing mode that was in MKA, have a mode that's like a race against the other player with mini games. The first player to complete it wins. Like Mario Party and MK mini games combined here. Example, say the mode is called mini-game mixed mode. Both players will have to first do a Test your might 3 times, whoever finishes first moves on to the next round of MK racing one lap on some map, once that finishes then there's a mini adventure mode where you have to finish a small stage(think MK mythologies here but shorter) whoever finishes first wins.
-KAK bring back, but improve it. I love the xbox version because you can actually block it if you wish to avoid KAK scrubs that suck ass in MK to begin with, so bring it back with the same online options(optional or not) but this time improve the KAK so it's even better and have a new online trading mode or viewing mode so other players can not only play your KAK with theirs but perhaps buy it from you with MK Kash koins as well as have the option to view it prior to the purchase, say have a limit of 5 KAK's you can buy in online purchases. Example, if I make Vega and you wanted Vega and like it...give me 100 koins and it's yours, of course the seller can charge whatever he wishes/negotiate with the buyer.
-Have downloads on newer modes/stages that can be made online. This one doesn't matter much to me personally but would be cool if say a certain stage can't be played online or something, or say once you beat the game 30 times you'll unlock a new online mode. Say there's a total of 7 different online modes in total within the gamebut you start off with 3 so you'll have to unlock 4.
-Have a 1-3 character team mode where one player can choose up to 3 character against another online player doing the same(not a multiplayer option like tag team or Round Robin/King of the Hill like the above) but think MKT/UMK3 here, say I play MINION online...I pick Fujin, Ermac and Scorpion vs. his 3 Noob, Stryker and Kira. Whoever takes out the other teams total characters first wins. : )
That's it for now that I can think of but feel free to discuss and post your ideals!

Would it not be a good idea to have Mortal Kombat Tournament mode?
This could work in two ways:
a) You host a game and invite your friends in a 4, 8 or 16 person elimination tournament, winner being the one who survives...think NBA Playoffs type of thing.
b) The top ranked fighters online can take their places 1-8 on the wall and you have to advance trying to beat them to see if you can get to the top.
Those are my thoughts anyway.
I like the King of the Hill Idea, whoever is the reigning winner when the time has ran out wins...sounds good.

That's what I missed actually, good thinking man. A tournament mode with up to 16(max) would be awesome, the only problem I see with that is finding the players to join.
Although if you can make adjustments to the amount like you said, say have an option for 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 or 16 players in a tournament. I think having that option for the amount would be a great idea.
On the rank board gig, I think that would be cool but have it separate of course from the other online modes obviously like they did with MKD and MKA's fighting mode records, puzzle, chess and motor kombat all separate.
