I wanted this thread to be a discussion for people with older TV sets.

First off, do I need a new TV? I bought my TV in 2001, and it is a Samsung with Hitron. Will my TV be able to handle MK8?

Of secondary importance is will MK8 support 420 or 720 i? Because if it does, well then I don't have to get a new TV because my TC can support those numbers. However a game that is made in a 1080 i (which is rare anyways) is a different story.

PS

I'm not too fond of the shapes of the flatscreens nowadays. Please take this into consideration. Thank you for reading.

Well you can run a game in 1080p even on your 19"" 1987 Tube TV.. It's just not going to run in 1080p. But you'll still be able to play it.

Or you could just buy a nice 40" 1080p Samsung like i did at Christmas and be amazed... I have a PS3 and games look fantastic!

But don't get a Plasma.. it's bad for gaming.. get an LCD it's great for gaming, and it lives 60000 hours... that's a lot... 30000 for plasma.. and the new tech; OLED gets around 15000, but OLED looks stunning, perfection i might add!!!

Very true, besides which I do not believe the game will be in true 1080i form.

LCD's are now beating plasma in reaction time, contrast ratio and just about any important category imaginable. OLED is too new of a technology. They have to improve the life of the unit. DLP TVs look fantastic, but their refresh times are a bit sluggish at 8 ms. You could pick up an LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silacone) Projection TV. Their reaction times are decent at 4ms, and their going to be the first TVs to reach the next step in HD ...... the vaunted 1152p!!

I guess I will wait for an official announcement on what whether it will be 420 780, or 1080 i or p. That is the best way to go around and do this thing. Besides which I signed up for a converter box so my TV will work after 2009. Therefore, I feel that this thread has been resolved, and mods may feel free to close it. Thanks to all who have contributed, and an LCD TV is what I might buy if my TV breaks permanently.smile
