Original timeline question

Hi guys.

After reading that kotal kahn is the current emperor of outworld I was thinking about the original timeline.

Who assumed the throne after shao kahn was "killed" by the deadly alliance? I know mileena took his fortress and control of his armies but that was some time at the end of deception no? Was the throne empty during deadly alliance and deception?

I cant seem to find an answer in mk wikis so maybe a story guru could help out.

Quan Chi and Shang Tsung did. They commanded most of the army (except for maybe a few Emperor loyalists, I'm thinking Reiko). They had actual oni demons in their ranks, as well as accomplished Generals like Kano so the population pretty much submitted. They secured the realm, went to the village of Sun Do, which was the only place in Outworld which could open a portal directly into the Heavens and created a soulnado.

Yeah, the Deadly Alliance took it from Kahn, Onaga took it from the Deadly Alliance, and Mileena pretending to be Kitana and the Edenian army held the castle after Onaga's death, until Kahn came back.
