Rumor has it that they wanted to put some in but they had bugs, so no go. I think they held back on a lot of features in this game to work out glitches and not to put all thier "eggs" in one basket. I assuming you will see things such as multiple fatalities, pit fatalities, and and more "interesting" secrets in the next MK.

Aparently it was made official they didn't make it into the game, despite some people even digging into the games code and finding some code relating to stage fatalities.

All that being said, with this "final secret" being revealed in the next two months or so(hopefully), I'm still optomistic about the chance of stage fatalities still being there, I have my reasons for that, but, as of the moment, the answer is a "no".
