*bare with me, im not exactly a speech kind of guy like Saty,TTT,HDT and Bleed..lol*
With new things come change, and I feel as a dedicated fan of the Mortal Kombat Series that the community is due for a change. There are simply too many great fans here that have not been exposed to the many things that make an actual fighting game. Tiers, conventions, strategies, mind games, etc. This is in no way the fault of the players, for Midway themselves have made no actual effort to assist their fans with this like say Namco,Sammy,Capcom or Sega. High Level was a thing that was seeked out by the OGs like Lex and MKL back in the day. There was no internet(atleast it wasn't big yet), but we, we are much more fortunate to be a fan of the series now. We have a community BOOMING with players, a new game that is going to be online, and the largest roster for an MK game since Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Things look nothing but bright for us. So to capitilize on this I have come up with a plan...a new beginning so to speak. A little something I refer to as Projekt Revolution. A wide assortment of FAQ,Guides,Topics, some small, some huge, all with one goal...to help the community become stronger. So this topic is basically a guideline as to what you can expect the coming 3 or so months from myself and fellow players...
1.A Tier Listing - Most know what this is already. A 1-24 list of the best and worst in the game. This will be created by the top players after a few weeks-months of play. A tier list isn't exactly easy to make and requires much thought and unbiased people who know what they are talking about. The past tier lists have been for the most part reliable. Tier Lists will ONLY be updated if there has been a DRASTICALLY GAME CHANGING discovery made(in example, the back dash cancel or universal tracking, glitch with a character) that not only makes that character much better/much worse, but completely changes the way the game is played.
2. Convention FAQ - The best way to get started on learning a game is obviously to learn the conventions. How are you going to learn Jax if you don't know what im talking about when I say Muay Thai: 2,2,cs,4,b+2,b+2,4,4,cs,4? The FAQ will cover all version of the game, and will explain certain techniques such as the tech roll, back dash cancels and the universal side step.
3. Standard Tournament FAQ - A Small FAQ basically explaining the rules you'd you have if you're throwing a certain type of tournament. Regular Tournaments,Major Tournaments,Character Specific Tournaments,Chess Tournaments and Puzzle Kombat Tournaments are just a couple of examples of the rules we'll cover. Of course you can change them in anyway you desire for the tournament you are holding, but if you have no plans to do so, you can use this FAQ as a quick and easy resource to get your tournament going with minimal stress.
4. Krypt FAQ – We certainly haven’t forgotten about the non gameplay aspects of MK, and we’ll prove that with our Krypt FAQ. Basically a straight forward guide to everything located in the Krypt.
5. Character Strat Topics – Now it is unclear at the time whether MKO will be kind enough to give us our own Fighting Strategy Board and sticky up topics for all 25 characters, but we can hope for that. If not, we will have to create another High Level gameplay, identical to the one that we had for MKDA.
6. Outside The Thumbs FAQ(Gameplay with the Mind) – Probably the most ambitious and entertaining of the Projekt Revolution set, this will teach you how to THINK like a high level player. What should be on your mind at all times? What to do when you and you’re opponent are both on danger? All these and more SHOULD be answered with this funny, but very educational guide.
And that folks, is our plans for the next month or so. If there are ANY, and I don’t care how stupid you may think it is, ideas you’d like to add, I’d appreciate you posting in THIS topic BEFORE October 4th. October 4th will be the deadline, and I will not be accepting any further suggestions for this project past then. Last, but most certainly not least, I would STRONGLY appreciate PMs from people who are interested in helping me with this project. Any help will be appreciated, however, please PM rather than posting here. Don’t ask why, but I would much rather the people working on this project to be anonymous until we have a clear idea of what we’re going to do and how big this will really be. Also, please state what exactly you'd like to help out with. So remember...IDEAS HERE IN THIS TOPIC...HELPING OUT(PM!). Thank you very much for your cooperation, see you on the battlfield.
*That wasn’t too bad was it? lol*

I'll help I'm definitely going to try making strats for Li Mei for sure. Just hope she's immediately selectable so I don't have to wade through Konquest just to be able to use her.

Finally a good post on here that isn't about a "favorite character" or "Please Boon let Sektor be in"... This is a great idea Vers. I am definately behind this 100%. The only problem I have is that I have a PS2 and you have an XBox. Looks like you are off the hook from my wrath. ;) Seriously though, I would be more than happy to contribute to the Tier list debate and what not. I agree with you that MK doesn't get that sort of stuff like Tekken does but its probably due to the fact that Boon and co have yet to give us a fighting engine deep enough for that. Maybe next game.... I swear to Pete if they make another poll asking what you want most in the next MK and Fatalities or favorite characters wins again I will never play MK again.
Great ideas though and should be interesting to see how much support this gets.

Alright I know how to play mind games with people and stuff, and I'd like to see a tier and be in a tournament. But this is the first time I've ever heard of this "High Level Gameplay" stuff. What the hell is it?! I've never heard of it spoken anywhere I've been in my 13 years of playing games! Is it only in certain fighting games or something? Someone please explain... confused

So, this "revolution" is basically an attempt at helpin' bring certain play assets into MK, which every other fighter comunity has? LOL, sweet! grin. I'm good for it. I'll be making a moves list with various properties; jg's, knd, various other properties, ranges and so forth. I know hdt is pretty serious about constructing a data base of properties and what not.
I think we should all bug the HELL out of midway and see if we can suck some frame data from them. Anywho...

hey i support this a lot
MK:DA never really got respect as a real fighting game at all
I only wanted MK:D because it was online and will have competitors. I also play T4,Sc2, and MVC2
I've been to only 1 major tournament though (TiT 6)
i'd support in anyway

Good shit bro.. I hope to be alot more active this time around. I was hesitant to post alot of stuff back when DA came out because there were way to many haters on the board, and i honestly didnt even notice the high level play thread/ tier thread until they reached a shit load of pages. I didnt want to just pop in / intrude on ur threads and you all have the same response (WHO THE FUCK IS THIS GUY)....lol I'll be there/here from page 1 this time around :)

Ah yeah. It was weird never seeing you around talking strats for MKDA. Especially considering you're so good. Better lay down the law for D while i get my cable connection.

About Me

I don't want a bigger movelist Boon. I want a reason to use more than
10% of the ones you've given me. Fix MK with Move Properties.

Good stuff man. Are you planning to organize all of these into one thread, multiple threads, text files on gamefaqs or I dunno?

Im debating whether or not there should FAQs for each character. I know me and konqrr are most likely going to work on a FAQ for Sub-Zero, but since there should be threads for each character, whats the point really?

This will definately make for better competition online if some people actually read the tier lists and high level gameplay strategies. I know I could use a few pointers to be successful online. I can hold my own with my friends, but I know some of you guys out there will just beat my ass online. I will definately appreciate any good strategy and/or skill development that I can grab from your threads Vers.

I don't know about for EVERY character, but I'll work on a faq for a character or two. I think Character faqs themselves, formulated after a lot of stuff is found out, is more useful than anything else. Things like character overviews, move analysis, okizemes, wall game, standard combos, movement, cancels, anti-character stuff, anti-SS tactics, anti-turtle tactics, string overview, throw overview and what it setups/followups in mindgames, etc. are great. They can easily teach players what they need to know and what they need to think about when certain things are done.
Er.. of course thats assuming that we can milk MKD that far, I'm sure half the stuff I just listed won't apply. I call dibs on the character that has the most interesting mixups, lol.

lol no Mobius, was just playing, talking about general character overview stuff. Although I bet some characters will be able to have a few simple ground games setting their opponents up for certain situations with certain moves.
Cause right now I'm thinking Ashrah's upward fireball is going to be a great tool to force the opponent to block, which means some free mixups maybe assuming you can dash in, in-time to apply it. Assuming Scorp's hellfire isn't blockable, he'll be able to throw it out here and there to get people that don't tech or sidestep right away anticipating it like in MKDA.
It'd be too much of a dream for me if MKD had a ground game and counterhits that had frame advantage/different properties.
Anyways Verse, I'm sure you're planning everything, so let us know when you plan to put everything in motion.

The presence of a good okizeme game would be sweet. Nonetheless I am still hopeful that there are many good strats left to be discovered such as the ones you hint at. Ill be willing to write a strat/mixup etc faq for characters (other than SZ since he will be well covered) that I get good at and feel like I have something valuable to write.

Things will kickstart when I get MKD and get a feel of it by myself and online with the posse. THat should be around October 5th or so 6th or so. I expect that the High Level Gameplay thread will be taken care of by somebody else.

You think there should be a thread to just post random findings, at first? Not nessecarilly a "high level" thread, but just one for random "first few weeks" mechanics and gameplay nuances? Kind of like a testing thread? Anywho, peace.

I think the idea for each character to have their own thread would be great. People could discuss high level gameplay, best combos, highest damage combos, safest moves, the character's special moves, etc.
Anyways, I think you have a great idea. I usually just play MK for fun though. I do think I'm a good MK player but no where near the level of some of these people, so I'm probably just going to stay quiet on a lot of the discussions. I look forwards to seeing a lot of this stuff tho.
