Random rant from the new guy...

posted12/29/2004 04:59 PM (UTC)byHi everyone. Im a newbie here, but a veteran fan of the MK series. (Most of the titles, anyway) My gamer tag used to be Phrantic 741, but I had to use up my 2nd free 2-month trial and switch tags, so now Im Bach 741.
Anyway, just a few things Id like to say about some of the posts Ive read here. Just so I have my lingo straight, a turtle player is someone who does nothing but play defense, and strikes every time you try and land something, right? Also, before commenting on how liberally the term cheap is used in regards to this game, Id like to share a copy of an article Ive posted elsewhere. From visiting other forums, I can definitely say you guys (and gals) are the most hardcore MK gamers Ive found, so I know Ill appreciate any input you have. (I wrote this mostly out of anger towards all the lip I was getting for throwing people.)

ATTN: Those allergic to the throw...
Ahh! The black button!! *gasp*
Im lost. Could someone please direct me to the one, golden page of the Mortal Kombat rulebook that states all buttons available during combat may be used... except the throw button? Id really like to see this rule with my own eyes because, apparently, Ive been doing something terribly wrong throughout the duration of my online engagements.
Ive been using all of the buttons.
The number of times Ive been chastised for doing this is surprising. For most players, a few well-timed throws will actually send them into a frenzy, like rabid, 16-year old pubescent Chihuahuas in heat, barking curses and empty threats. As Ive explained in other threads before, the primary concept of the fighting game (I think), is reflex. Am I wrong on this?
If someone goes to throw me more than once (a good indication is when they close the distance between you while you bounce from taking the fall), I duck. Still, even when I do remember to do that, a low-attack might be waiting to knock me down. Point being; if I can outsmart them, I deserve to win. If I get wiped clean by some tool doing the exact-same high-low combo over and over again (oh yes, you know who you are), I know to win I must a) learn the combo, and b) learn to block accordingly.
Besides throws, I've done the same two or three moves several times per match (even mixed with some combos), and been called 'cheap', not to mention worse. (hearing some of these kids curse is hilarious) I could learn three other low-attacks to counter your high block, so it would at least look like I was doing something different, but I don't have the time. I'm usually trying to get better with other characters. (Anyone up for starting a thread to discuss if people who pick one character over and over again should be chastised or not, feel free)
If I try to throw you and completely miss, then get pummeled, thats my fault. I accept the responsibility. Apparently, there are some people out there who dont want to accept responsibility for being thrown. Suddenly, Im not an above-average gamer with good reflexes... suddenly, Im just the jerk who keeps throwing you. (By the way, Ive never won a match entirely with throws, nor do I ever plan to.)
Is it not acceptable practice to compete against others by taking advantage of all the options available to you? I guess not. Im far from the best at this game. Some of you out there are truly outstanding, and to those of you who beat me, I applaud you, and hold no anger towards you for the way in which you defeated me. You didnt run over my mother you just pressed the buttons in the right order, at the right time. For those quitters out there, who think it's neat to leave in the middle of a fatality... *shiver*. I'd best not say it.
------
To make one more point, Ive read some people complaining about players who only stick around for one or two fights, then leave. I think I have a great deal of patience, so when someone does that to me, I dont really mind. When I do that to someone else, its usually one of two reasons: a) I need to go, or b) I dont feel like getting my @SS whooped anymore! Im not a rankwhore I hit the spot in the top 50 that I wanted to reach (and have since fallen from), so that doesnt matter. Im just not going to play against someone who completely dominates me. If I leave after a few matches, take it as a compliment.
Its alarming how we try to analyze people by observing their simplest actions however I do understand how some of these actions cause anger or distress (being a verbal prick, quitting in the middle of a match or during the fatality, or disconnecting instead). To begin my contributions, I will second the statement made in a recent post about rankwhores. Meatballa was one of the rudest, most condescending cockmasters Ive ever played against. In fact, HE was the reason I even started an a-hole list of my own in the first place. Other forums dont seem that interested in pointing out the highly aggravating players, but you guys do. That freaking rules.

i agree with everything you said buddy. like i've said in other posts, i don't consider anything cheap, if the developers put in the game, i'll damn well use it. if somebody wants to complain that's their problem, i am going to keep throwing them until they learn how to avoid it.
Maybe someone here will know the answer to this... has anyone ever actually played a match against "Da Guvna"? I'm dying to know how they acquired 600 wins / 0 losses within the first week the game was out, (I swore they had those stats when I first started playing) and have remained in the top 5 since. I proposed a dual-account theory, and thought maybe he/she had conned a friend with an XBOX into accepting 600 losses in a row; quite the undertaking just to "have your name in lights", in my opinion.

oh yeah, this guy is obviously a fake. his win/loss has been 600-0 ever since i started playing on XBL, which was about a month ago. he obvouslt cheated somehow and now won't play anyone for fear of losing his precious top 5 spot on XBL. that's just sad if you ask me. what's the big deal if you are top 5? and why would anyone go through all this trouble just to see their gamertag, not even their real name mind you, on some XBL ranking? sad.

I agree with you Bach, some people do not truley know what throwing is really for. When I whent to E3 this year and spoke to the developers on this game I begged them to make throws unblockable, I told them it was rediculous to reward turtling players that did nothing but hide behind the block button all day until the time ran out. Myself and a few other hardcore fighting fans from various magazines expressed our disgust on the blockable throw. It seems that they listened to us, now the turtles have lost their shell and have been exposed. The throw is intended to break your guard when your defense is just too good against normal punches and kicks. Thats why all fighting games offer the throw, the only thing MK:D needed was a throw break to prevent yourself from being thrown too much given that you input the correct move in the alloted animation frames.
That and a wake up game to prevent 50/50 guessing games.
Peace

bach, do u use dariou??????

About Me

ok cause i played a guy today who used him, whos name was bach something.
No kidding? In case you didn't know, that's the last name of a famous (long dead) German composer. I'm pretty stunned there's someone else out there playing MK with that name; then again, if they enjoy classical music, chances are they enjoy Bach.
Ooops. Gaming forum. I'll shut up now.

i don't know if we are talking about the same person, but i saw Bach something on the weekly ranking today with a record of 55-0! hmmm.....

is he now, cause he used dariou barely won the first 3, beat me the 4th, than i took brc he was losing the 5th game and quit, and i was pissed cause he had the nerve to be a back dropping whore, but than quit when he couldnt win. another loser who sucked, if i only new jade better, he would lose every match.
Dude, now I'M getting pissed! Some guy has MY name, AND is using Dairou like a cheap punk?
For clarification, my tag is 'Bach 741', just like that. I'm not 55-0; I have some losses, and I don't use Dairou unless random selected.
Besides, if this Bach vs. Bach match were ever to happen, I'm just going to heckle them for picking Dairou all the time anyway. I'll let you guys know if I bump into this mysterious name-copier...

busted now bach! they r onto u! lol
i wuld also like to say i agree with wat u sed earlier bout people who complain about throwin, they r prety easy to avoid if u can see they player's tactic, but i hav cum across sum who have got angry bout them. if its the only thing u do, then of course its bad (and i hav cum across sum players who only do that! the raiden teleport, throw etc tactic).
but about people who get annoyed bout people playin one match, is that here in the UK, it hapens qwite a lot. it can take me sum time to find sum one i can play, becus i get rejected qwite a lot, prob from past experiences, and the people i can only really play with is sum frends i made online and it can be qwite anoyin if u just wana qwik fite agains sumone one. people wory too much bout their rank >coughcough< lol. (no offense)

Ah ha, thank you Raiden - now it makes sense. When I made the statement earlier about my stats, and having losses, I was thinking overall, not weekly like you had said. My bad.
(Speaking of losses, as a note to everyone old enough to consume alcohol; NEVER hop online and try to fight when you're smashed on two different kinds of Whiskey. Whooooo, boy. I woke up on the couch after a Christmas party, with 8 losses to my tag THAT I DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER HAPPENING. Oops!)
Yeah, I don't think I've had any losses in the last week - I stumbled across some kid a few nights ago that really couldn't play at all, but wanted to see every fatality of every character possible. It was kind of funny! "Now do this chicks fatality. Don't throw me off the edge, I want to see the fatality! NO! I've seen that one before!" He was a little bossy, but fun to entertain, nonetheless. Even though it did get old after a while, I got to play as some characters I normally never would. I think I must have played him 15 times, so in all honesty, the ratio without me beating up on someone who just wanted to see fatalities is about 44-0.
STILL - there has to be another Bach out there, as Red said he played a Bach that chose Dairou multiple times, and I swear on whatever holy book you have that I never pick him by my own will! I also confirmed the day Red said he played this other Bach was 12/27 - I swear I was not intoxicated on a Monday, so I'm sure on this!
I should be on plenty in the coming weeks, though, so look for that ratio to even out a little! Jimbo, I can totally see where you're coming from by wanting to play more than just one match with someone, being you're in the UK.
Look me up, Raiden. Peace.
