The reason that SM didn't go online was becaue of the main aspect; it's an adventure game, not a fighter. The Vs. Mode was just a bonus that they put in, and is not supposed to be the main feature. With lag, and the amount of enemies that would be on screen at one time, the game would've been difficult to put online.
