If that were the case than shouldn't Scorpion still be on the hunt for Onaga?

Besides, I have a feeling that the Elder Gods resurrected his clan as hellspawns to purposely spite Scorpion. But then again, with Armageddon, don't you think the Elder Gods should be trying to find more ways to PREVENT it than CAUSE it?

in mka conquest mode scorpion clearly state that he did do the eldergods bidding and they did ressurect them.... kinda

So Scorpion half-assing his job is the reason the Elder Gods half-assed resurrecting his clan/family.

No, Monster is not Scorpion. Monster was the previous Champion of the Elder Gods and had existed long before Scorpion was even born, let alone when becoming Champion of the Elder Gods himself. The other thing you said doesn't make sense.

This proves two things:

-the Elder Gods are much alike the Elder Gods of the Cthulhu mythoi from H.P. Lovecrafts works, save being inteligent and malignant on purpose.

-the Elder Gods are not the good guys

My two cents,hoever let me think that the Elder Gods have a second purpose..i'll explain.
In the beginning of the history of mortal kombat(after mk Deception in real life,but in MK storyline & time order before the first tournament) is said that The Elder Gods never helped mankind to defeat Earth's enemies,because the'were afraid that a single action may change the fate of the universe and bring a series of reaction that may resurrect the Dragon King.
But,even tough they(apparentely) never interrupt MK or assisted humans,Onaga respowned as well.
This means that the previous theory was wrong.
So Elder Gods understood that they had to interfere with destiny,not ignoring as they do until Dragon King resurrection.
Actually Scorpion is the champion chosen by Elder Gods to defeat onaga,in fact Shujinko was never chosen by Gods but by Damashi/onaga.
However do you remind Kira's and Kobra's ending?
Whoever try to have to do or have buisness with the elder gods are fu***king dead men.
So Kira become a Death Goddes and Kobra dies,Kira was killed by Kobra....they have some kind of accord.
Scorpion too had some kind of stipulation with Elder gods:if he will defeat Onaga all his clan and family will be resurrected,but he doesn't specificate "alive".So Elder Gods trick him.
Like Cristhian Satan:if you have a deal with him,he never give to you what you want,but will give you....a trick!
