I'd definitely agree with this idea. I mean, there have always been levels that I've tied to certain characters. Baraka and the wasteland of MK2, Sub-Zero and Lin Kuei HQ in MK:DA, Scorpion and the hell stage in UMK3 are all examples. But it could never be said that there's been a level for everybody.

I don't even think that the MK team would have to put all that much into it, resource wise. I know there are what, 15 levels? I suppose it'd take a while, but I think it'd be cool to see 15 more levels. They could be simple 3D renderings of past levels (like the three I just mentioned) without all of the multitier, danger zone stuff.

I say if it's doable, and they have the time somehow, I'd say go for it and create as many simpler arenas as possible.

They should. Not only would it give us more arena's but actually help give a character more depth by seeing what type of place he resides in.

Yea if they did that, character background specific fatalities could be implemented as mentioned awhile ago.

It's a great idea! I made a thread on this before!
which is here:

DESIGN your own INTERACTIVE Character Specific Arenas for MKD

Hopefully, they'll take the time to make some character specific arenas1 I think they'd be great to play on especially now that we have death traps!

Here were two of my ideas for these arenas.

Here’s a Stage for Frost and Sub.

Ice Arena:

The main fighting arena lies in the center and is a circular icy floor. The entire surface is slippery, but for Sub and Frost, it is perfect terrain and they can walk on the ice with no problem. Everyone else slides. The outside edge of the arena has icy spikes (stalagmites or stalactites – I forget which) coming out of the ground. An uppercut here would see the opponent impaled. There is a small gap in 4 opposite corners of the spikes, which lead to a pit with starving angler fish or piranha (or some other carniverous fish). Anyone falling in will be eaten alive. The background is cavern like and an icy rain falls on the arena. In the very center of the arena is an ice column with a sword inside. However, the weapon has a small icy pool around it which has two small bridges made of ice leading to it. You have to walk these to get to the weapons and avoid falling into the freezing water below. The cavern wall fences in half of the arena and it also provides a partial roof. However, the cave wall is pretty sensitive. A hard blow to the opponent would send them through the icy spikes at the edge and into the cave wall, causing more icy spikes from above to fall and impale them!

Here is one for Raiden.

The Sky Platform:

This is a square arena with no walls or barriers. It sits on a dark thunder cloud and floats along through the thundery sky. In the background you can see the lightning. You hear thunder and there is rain of course. Falling off the edge means falling into the thunder cloud resulting in you being blown up. The camera will lower showing your blood, limbs and flesh raining form the sky! (No cheesy KI fall to the ground here! This is MK!!)

The arena itself is huge! Why? Because as you travel through the sky, lightning bolts destroy the edge of the arena and sometimes central parts (randomly) and so you have to keep from falling off as best you can.
Also, the arena can also conduct electricity. There a resistor pads around the arena that you must step on before the lightning strikes the ground, preventing you from taking damage. Thunder will be the warning telling you to move onto them. Although that probably would be a bad idea. Since lightning comes before thunder, the first lightning strike will strike one of the pads showing you that it is resistant to it. There’ll be an option to have that feature on or not. One or two weapons will be on resistor pads and for s deathtrap, there will be a lightning conductor in the center of the arena. If an opponent is knocked into it, since they’re wet because of the rain, they’ll be blasted to bits. A stormy wind also blows on occasion and blows you towards the edge.

Yeah, that's a cool idea. I would like characters to have their own arenas. Look at Soul Calibur, characters do have their own stages.
Meh ... they did this with Clay Fighter and Soul Calibur, and I honestly thought they got a little cheezy. "Hey! I know! Let's put the clown character in a circus! Awesome stage!" I'd rather see stages crafted for ingenuity, rather than trying to make it fit the character type.

The idea is nice but I prefer the stages being more plot-related than character related. If the character plays a big role in the plot then they deserve their own stage (ex. Tsung's Palace in MKDA).

It's MK tradition that the stages are not character-specific so I think we should stick to this tradition and only give a few key characters their own stages like bosses and sub-bosses.

Like Daemos said, I think it's better that stages are plot-related, and make sense in the context of the story of the game. Actually, they really violated that in MKDA. I mean, the Lin Kuei temple and Wu Shi Academy are on Earthrealm, right? But the Lava Shrine, the Dragon Fly, the Acid Bath- those are all in Outworld. It was cool how they gave every stage a background story, but they should have tried to make it make sense to fight at each stage according to the game's storyline.

I like the idea, but I'm actualy gonna say no. I doubt it would be as fun to play Arcade mode if every time you fight, say Sub Zero, you have to fight in the Lin Kuei Temple. It's a good idea, but I think it limits the imagination. Also if this game is going to be a tournament format (for the storyline) then the fighters would have to fight in assigned arenas (if it were real), but with your idea someone would always have home advantage. Whereas I prefer the MK:Movie style of two fighters fighting in a designated arena, and both just show up and fight one another to the death, at a neutral arena. So I have to disagree and say no.

good point krsx66

that said the arena's should be more story focused
but like someon said about da it had too many of those character related places and kinda seems odd that there are earthrealm arena's while the battle is in outworld
