Should MK:D be more like the ORIGINAL MKs or branch off and try to REINVENT the genre?

Should it play it safe, or try to expand upon the premise of MK:DA, which was a semi-success (open to debate) because of its different gameplay style? In the competitive market, the maxims of "if it isn't broke, don't fix it" can only go so far, and the risk is quite real that the franchise could go belly up because of simply mistakes. So, would you prefer a reinvention, or classic, original gameplay? Fatality.

I think it should be reinvented. If you want the classic style play MAT2, or the old games themselves. Don't get me wrong they're really fun (and I play UMK3 online alot) but I just think they should keep improving upon MKDA. Hopefully MKD will have fixed most of the problems DA had, and then MK7 will be an improvement on MKD. The 2D games were for the 90's, to compete with the other 3D fighters it had to change (and stay changed) MK4 is generaly disliked, MKDA got mixed reviews - hopefully it will be a case of third time lucky with MKD...

...of course you can always have...both.

Reinvent upon MK:DA to make MK:D.
Have the 2d fighters still exist, but on the Game Boy Advance. I can see it now. A MK3 looking game with MK:D characters in it.

The GameBoy Advance won't be around much longer. 2D games will soon disappear. Then what? Even the MK games for the GBA are semi-3D (the crap that is Mortal Kombat Advance excluded.) Fatality.

you never know. In a few years, what was atari and lame would then be hip and retro. As a matter of fact. It already happened. With the NES series of games coming out for GBA..wether you want to believe they did it for the money or the reaction to those who play it..They took the old..and said..used but still loved. Including games that have jampacks of oldies and that 2-d fighter...Veiwtiful Joe. I think that you mix up the old..old enough to be forgotten..in with the new..people will buy it.
Like for instance in a few years, no one will remember that scorpian even took off his mask and breathed fire unto the opponent.

How can you even call MKDA a semi-success? That is just STUPID. MKDA was extremely successful as a game, more precisely, a FIGHTING game. How do you determine its success? Whether or not it sold.

The gameplay was shallow but fun. MKDA should expand on what MKDA did but so far it did not, it only adding some unrelated things. The fighting engine is still crap and needs to be reworked. So a bit of reinvention is necessary.

If you want a complete reinvention like MKDA, then its too early for that. Let's see where Midway plan on taking MK before we say something like that.

I disagree entirely, there will ALWAYS be a place for 2-D games, some games r justBETTER in 2-D go play teh castlevania games on GBA (and Symphony of the night on PS1) and the try the PS2 castlevania, u'll see a helluva difference.
