How can you say Smoke isn't a Scorpion rip-off? So far Smoke's only original moves are his fatalities as a cyber-ninja. As a human his only difference with Scorpion is that he wears a grey outfit and he emits smoke around him. As a cyber-ninja he still has the Scorpion-like spear and Sektor's teleport uppercut. Also, like someone else pointed out, his character has plot-holes all in it. For example, he is supposed to be in the Lin Kuei...but his special moves are the same as that of Scorpion's clan.

I'm sure they will add depth to his character and update us on his story (which they need to do with MANY characters) and those are the only reasons I'm glad he's in the game.

Smoke is a unique character in that before he was captured and turned into a robot, he was a lightning fast ninja that could kick youre ass in two seconds. He was faster than any character, making him unique.

Also you wanna be carefull when you call smoke a scorpion ripoff because he was a ninja. Heck by that logic, you might as well call ermac, rain, and maybe even subzero a scorpion ripoff. Not every ninja created thinks scorpion is the key to everything.

I never realized that you had to be part of the Shirai Ryu in order to throw a spear. That's a shame. I went whaling the other day, and tossed a couple out myself. Crap, now Im going to be assaulted by angry yellow ninjas.

I'm not saying Smoke is copying Scorpion because of his look, although that and the fact that he emits smoke are the main differences. Based on the fact that he does the spear and even yells "Get Over Here" or "Come Here" and also does the teleport punch make him VERY similar to Scorpion. His fatalities on Trilogy are different, but they aren't that great either (his Friendship was amusing tho).

I don't know if this statement was directed at me but to clear it up...I didn't compare Scorpion and Smoke because they both wear ninja suits on that fact alone, it was because the small fact that they both wear ninja suits ALONG with the fact that they have nearly ALL the same moves. Scorpion has a much better story behind him and his fatalities are much cooler...so why pick Smoke unless your favorite color is grey and u think someone who emits smoke is just too cool not to pick?

As far as the speed bursts...All the hidden characters in MK2 could do that. Smoke, Jade, and Noob Saibot all had speed bursts. They were hidden characters who were DESIGNED to beat ur ass quickly. Unless I'm in the dark, playable Smoke doesn't have speed bursts.


Point is, Smoke is way too similar to Scorpion move-wise and it doesn't help that they are similar looks-wise. The small differences favor Scorpion. Basically picking Smoke in MKT or his hidden self in UMK3 is like picking a toned-down Scorpion. And don't think I'm doing this to defend or praise Scorpion, he's not my favorite or anything.

As far as Smoke in Deception I have NO problem with it. I'm looking forward to it and, who knows, he may become my favorite character. I didn't care for Sonya in the first MK but she has definately became one of my top five of all time.

Umm, I wouldn't call the others Scorpion rip-offs, But i would call Smoke (human) a Scorpion rip-off. They were exactly the same except different colors.

I hated Human Smoke because of that. But Cyber Smoke was the coolest of all the cyborgs... And i was happy that he had that cool harpoon, Because Scorpion was missing in MK3. Hmm, He also had Reptile's invisibility which was also very cool, Which was great since Reptile also wasn't in MK3.

Unlike a few people, I hope Smoke has his three-pronged harpoon, Plus about two original moves.

Well,in MK:Deception every character will have their own unique moves and their own unique costumes.So I guess arguing about how he was in the past doesn't mean shit.Smoke is returning and I'm happy,that's all i have to say.

In regard to the speed bursts, it's true that Noob and Jade had those too. But Smoke's were twice as fast as theirs. I remember playing in the arcades so long ago, and knowing for certain he'd have some move like that in MK3. Instead, they gave me a RUN button. *Sigh*

Don't get me wrong. I hate the fact that he's got 2...no, 3 of Scorp's moves, counting the air throw. I was even less impressed in MK3; I don't consider a trident to be the least bit different than a spear, regardless of the animation and sound effects, the effect is still the same. Scorpion should be the only one to have that. They gave him Reptile's Invisibility, and Sektor's Teleport Punch. The poor bastard never had an original move in his life. And it's sad; they could have, at the very least, recycled Reptile's Force Ball animation, and had him blast a stunning smoke at you. But no.

Regardless, I've always liked Smoke as a character, just because of his storyline. He makes up in that what he lacks in originality.

Anyway, I'm not shitting tacks. I just think that he's been screwed over more than any other character in the MK mythos, and really doesn't deserve the bad rap he gets. It's not his fault. (god, I'm speaking like he actually exists). Blame the developers.

It's about time he had some originality. I don't see why some people complain about his presence in the game. It's better he's in, IMO, then, let's say, a certain ninja based on a Prince movie.

MKD will be Smoke's time to shine, I can feel it in my guts. We can all agree on that.
