hari kiri is honorable suicide involving disembowelment.. usually also called seppuku.. "It generally refers to the victim making one to three cuts in his abdomen, and then being decapitated by a second (kaishaku). In a seppuku, the role of kaishaku is one of great honour and it shows that the person committing seppuku has great respect for the person so asked. It also shows a large amount of trust in the person's ability to end one's agony cleanly."
