No, the intro is non-cannon, supposedly the "real endings" are cannon though. Stay tuned to find out.

Oh, and read the Faq

Sorry but that is a common mistake. It is because of Cinder that people think the intro is noncanon. She said that it is not the final fate of the characters.Meaning that some of the characters that die could still be alive. But most people took it meaning that the intro was noncanon. In truth the intro is canon,as proved by Konquest mode and the bios.At the end of Konquest mode Taven is transported to the intro and he sees it take place. And all of the bios mention a great war between good and evil.So yes the intro is canon.

agree with mightymeatlord.
howver it might be so:the waqr between the good and evil is happened, but not in the way described in the intro.
the war happened, but we don't know if kenshi or others die.
however i never see a non-canon intro.it's no sense.
every game have a caonical intro.
first time that this doesn't happens?

Its cool how they put the cannon ending at the begging and worked backwards. New take on the MK storyline.

The canon ending at the beggining? so who really defeated Blaze? they left out the most important thing! XD

Supossedly the battle was set, though I don't think it was as described on the intro.

The intro is canon, but I guess not everything that happens in the intro is canon.

Yeah it is. If you follow through Konquest (which is supposed to be the actual story progression up to the Blaze battle which we won't know until the next game is ready for release) the battle takes place with Taven looking down and watching it.

As for the "deaths" in the intro, you need to remember one very important thing here.... it's MK. And as we all know, nobody in MK ever really "dies" or stays dead for that matter. If that was the case, then the cast in this game would be about 6 characters since everyone in MK:DA was killed aside from Shang and Quan Chi (we could get picky and include Raiden but he nuked himself and came back as the vengeful nutjob we now see in the intro to MK:D). Actually, deaths go back a long way with Cage being dead throughout MK3 and being resurrected for MK4 (and I know we could go with Goro, but even the intro to MK2 states that he lost and disappeared, no confirmation of his death at Cage's hands as has been written into the story but doesn't seem to have actually happened since he's still alive and getting beaten by me daily hehe).
