I've finished the quest mode, but, I hav'nt found any of these characters. Do I need to be at a certain place at a certain time? when, and where? And, how do I know where I am? What does grid....mean? I'm sorry if these seems like a lot to ask for, but, I'm renting the game...If you could help me, It'd be greatly appreciated!!!

yes you have to be at certain places during certain times for most of them.
Havik - JS - H-4/Chaosrealm (In A House)
Rayden - MA - E-3/Orderrealm (finish Konquest Mode and go back to fight him.)
Hotaru - OJ - H-1/Orderrealm (after 4am near a ledge)
Li Mei - PD - F-7/Outworld (In A House)
Kira - SH - H-2/Earthrealm (between 7pm and 9pm)
Liu Kang - G-8/Edenia (12am on Friday behind a tent)
