Stage Fatalities during combat????

By looking at the pics where that pony tail guy (Sub-Zero??) kicks Ermac in the grinder you can see that Ermac is still fighting back and not knocked out. Does this mean you can do stage fatalities before the round is over?? This would be pretty cool and realistic.
You don'tdo a certain button combonations, you justknock them into the danger zone.

But in the pics it looks like the fight is still on. Dont you have to wait till the they say finish him/her.

the game will be released (hopefully) before the new year like...maybe sometime in the fall
