To be honest, I don't think Boon considers Tao Feng to be Mortal Kombat's rival. In fact, I don't think anyone considers Tao Feng a rival. The game wasn't very big at all. In the early days, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat were the ultimate rivals. Today it's probably Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat. Deadly Alliance (on the PS2 alone) outsold Tekken 4 and Virtua Fighter 4 (both PS2 only titles). However Soul Calibur 2 sold over 5 million units on the Game Cube, Xbox, and PlayStation 2, compared to 2.6 million for Deadly Alliance. That's more worthy of a rival in my opinion.
Even then there's not really a SC vs MK fued. In fact there's not a MK vs anything fued today. Sure ten years ago it was all about SF vs MK. I remember the pressure of picking sides at the local acrade, hehe. I always stuck by MK's side, of course.
