The announcer.

I think it's a shame that the announcer doesn't say Superb, excellent, Hahaa during the fights.
I always loved it, when i gave my opponent a big hit and the announcer said SUPERB!!!

How do you guys think about that...

my interpretation was that the announcer was shao kahn, and now that he's dead, they don't have him doing that anymore. but there is still an announcer in this one, so i don't know if i'm wrong of now there's a new big powerful dude running the whole thing.
I think the announcer in this one is Quan Chi. It was in MK4 (listen to him in the fmv endings) and he sounds a little similar in this one, so I would assume it's him.
