my interpretation was that the announcer was shao kahn, and now that he's dead, they don't have him doing that anymore. but there is still an announcer in this one, so i don't know if i'm wrong of now there's a new big powerful dude running the whole thing.

I think the announcer in this one is Quan Chi. It was in MK4 (listen to him in the fmv endings) and he sounds a little similar in this one, so I would assume it's him.
