Yeah, it's definitely a stretch, but we don't have all the combatants, and maybe we'll see more of a sensical list of matchups once we get the full list.

I'd imagine:

Sub-Zero=>Batman: More or less confirmed by trailers, Mysterious Hero who starts out a loner (MK3-ish marked for death Subbie, Year 1ish Bats) and eventually takes on assistence (Sareena/Frost, the Bat family). Then again, Scorpion's always been about his family's deaths, and is more of a loner, so it's a toss up.

Jax (Or conceivably Sonya)=>Green Lantern: Both military types. Hopefully they'll cut the idiotic thug behavior Jax has had ever since MKSF, so we get two serious military men.

Kitana=>Wonder Woman: Warrior Princesses.

Sonya=>Catwoman: Boon & Co seem to be hyping this up, but the only parallel I see between them is breasts.

Raiden=>Captain Marvel: Thunder God versus Earth's Mightest Mortal who has the power of Zeus.

Liu Kang=>Superman: Altruistic hero? My metaphors start breaking down here.

Shang Tsung=>Archvillain (Presumably Luthor):Manipulative Schemers.

Shao Kahn=>Epic Villain (Presumably Darkseid): Epitome of Evils (At least until MKMSZ introduced Shinnok). Both obsessed with universal domination.

Scorpion=>Ninja Villain: Scorp ain't evil, but he's not exactly a choirboy either. If the Ninja Villain is Ra's al Ghul or Deathstroke (Who I'll admit, is not a ninja), both can add "returns from death" to the similarities list.
