I'm pretty sure kang was a secret charactor. In MK:D's website, he is the only charactor not listed, and just look at the means in which you had to get him. Obviously not something a random person could have found.

Liu Kang is a very strange case. I wouldn't go so far as to call him a secret character, at least not any more so than the other 12 you must unlock. However, Midway definitely wanted him to be a surprise. He's not listed anywhere on their site, and even in the Brady guide they made their entry for LK completely vague and never let on that it was him. They worked very hard, and succeeded, in surprising people with LK only when they were playing the game. To me though, a true secret character is one who is not on the character select screen from the beginning. And I don't just mean their faces are blacked-out like the 12 you must unlock, I mean they're not there at all.

IMO, it's sounding more and more like he's the super-unlockable character that would be difficult to find.
I really don't expect much out of Fight night regarding hearing about more secrets.
