Don't jump to conclusions, it's kinda hard to tell what style it is. Plus the team likes to mix up the styles for the characters for ex. Sub-Zero in MKDA had shaolin fist when the game was in production and the style was later given to Kung Lao.

Besides there are plenty of other Kung Fu styles that Kung Lao can use.
