First let me say that IMO if MK1 was going to be online it would have been announced. However, admittedly although time is running out very quickly, the devs may be testing it out as we speak and it may be thrown in late if it all works out.
Anyway, I found this post at gamefaqs in the Xbox section of MKD. It's an interesting read. The thread was a question asking if MK1 will be online in the Kollector's edition (Xbox version). Post Courtesy of "Seele13" (gs)
"That is a very real possibility. If you take a look at the GSLive at E3 2004: Demonstration you'll see that they mention 2 things. 1) They were very surprised at the amount of play time that MK1 was receiving in the arcade treasures booth and 2) Ed Boon mentioned that he would like to see how the original MK's (1-3) would play online in a possible future game. My guess is that since Mk1 was essentially complete for the E3 demo, they had the time to try out Ed's theory for putting it into online play. Because all of the online coding was being done for Deception, it doesn't make sense to do that all over again for MAT2. So it would be easier to move MK1 over to Deception rather than move the online system (Live and all) over to MAT2.
Also remember Midway needs to maintain their own servers for the PS2 version, so setting up an additional server array for MAT2 would be prohibitive."

So, what do we think?
Comments?
This guy seems to be a Gamespot employee? and he seems to be saying it's at least possible for Xbox Live.
